been taken from what selling pricef, They learned how to pound the typewriter and how to become the boss's favorite secretary. The Chem lab became the hide-out of a group of dangerous creatures who were determined to blow up the school by hook or by crook. Undoubtedly, they tried their best, but the remainder of the class wondered if the concocting of Hydrogen Sulfide was a part of the pipe-dream. For days the school wore its nose in a handkerchief. Physics proved to be a less hectic hurdle to some extent. For the most part, electricity was confined to the pages of the text book and oxygen, light and heat were found easily accessible when the lab beckoned us for experimentation. Before we could say 'gParlez-vous francais? the Regents floated down from Albany and we discovered that it was time for the last lap of our journey-our Senior year. At long last, we were Seniors and three years of drudgery lay behind us. But oh-what lay ahead of us-Intermediate Algebra! lt was during this memorable past of our voyage' that we began to wonder if 2 plus 2 equals ?-?+? or 4-. When we began our correspondence with our good allies the French, the postman became round-shouldered, burdened down with letters marked Par Avion. Needless to say, when the correspondence began to include les hommes as well as les jeunes filles, the mailman gave up his job for a less strenuous one. The first part of the year flew by so quickly and before we knew it we were the sole custodians of the senior stairs, the stairway that leads to-the padded cells. And then came thatlong awaited event-the arrival of our Senior rings. To us, the blue stones were as precious as a ten carat diamond and weeks followed before we could parade through the .halls without dangling our hands in mid-air. Our social life began to play, a major part with the advent of the Freshman Dance. Glory crowned our heads as we watched the shivering Freshmen parade before us, just as we had done four years before. The Hallowe'en and Thanksgiving Dances followed soon afterwards and last but not least came the Prom. And yet, there was a sad note injected into these activities for we knew that each day drew closer to that day of days-Graduation. Now, we must leave our ship the good St. Brendan and board vessels that will carry us to various ports-to marriage, to business and even to the religious life. We shall be free to make our own decisions, to form our own opinions and to mold our own lives. Our voyage was a pleasant one. It was not a bed of roses but neither was it a bed of thorns. The contacts we have made will gradually fade away into the sea fogg some of the knowledge we have gained will desert us-but the memories we have of these gay, delightful years will live on. Thank you, dear St. Brendan's, for everything. May God be with you always. 25 Vltrrakl Q W ka Wm 1 HWY I?

It seems impossible that they have faded away into sweet memories, leaving in their wake only a trail packed with laughter, joys, tears and sorrows of our voyage on the good ship St. Brendan. And yet as we look back now, is there one of us who would exchange her ticket for one on any other ship? When we docked in the port where Freshmen reign supreme, the storm clouds hovred dangerously low above us. The Seniors gazed upon us with an expression, which may be likened to that of a black panther ready for the kill. We hoveled in packs, hoping to avoid their paths. But horrors!! Hazing week came and all the dignity we had acquired as high school students went to the four winds. Curlers, inverted skirts and multi-colored socks certainly pulled our pride down to its lowest level. Then, of course, Latinus-a-um and x, y, z, didn't make the stay in port any pleasanter. But the haze which surrounded us was soon to lift and as we set sail once more, the extra-curricular activities of our Alma Mater were already beginning to claim our precious hours of freedom. The birds and bees of the spring of 1945 found our ship docked in a harbor, beached on the spirit-crushing rocks of the isoceles triangle and brain intricacies of the subjunctive mode. But we were Sophomores -mighty Sophomores, although we still couldn't understand why Brutus had not thrown a dagger at Caesar sooner. Certainly, had we lived at the time when Rome was at her zenith, we would have done so. But Brutus was an honorable man!! Just imagine carving a pound of flesh out of poor Antonio's body. Thatis a rather silly thing to do, isnit it? But you know Shakespeare!! He can get his characters into the most foolish predicaments. Compared to Euclid's brain child, however, Caesar and Shakespeare seemed like childs play. Of course, everyone knew that if two lines are parallel, the alternate interior angles are equal but we had a slight difficulty in expressing ourselves. By the time the Regents rolled around, our ship was really our home but our feeble brains, burdened with circles, triangles and the golden fleece,', were groping wildly in the darkness trying to decide which course the ship would take when we set sail for the port of Juniors. Would it be Commercial or Academic? Then like a bolt out of the blue, the Miracle of Miracles happened!! We passed the Regents and graduation was only two long years away. Tucked away, neatly in a corner of our brains, Geometry and Caesar became only memories, as Physics, Chemistry and Typing began to absorb our every minute. Those who continued with their academic course found themselves staggering under an excessive load of home- work. The Commercial Students became involved in the problems of who should give what commission to whom after what discount had 24 f Ill vi X l -V rs--ff 3
