VVC, the Seniors of 1951, dedicate this edition of the Sabonite to YOU! As we depart from these sheltering walls, we leave YOU, to take our place. YOU, with whom we have studied, laughed, and praved through-out the four long vears! l arewell, we must say, but as we say it, we leave with vou the high ideals of a good Catholic education, the principles and higher standards which have been instilled in us bv those shining guides, our teachers. VVe walk towardsian unknown future, and, as we turn for a last look at our 'Alma Xlater', we see vou carrying on in the process of learning, and feel con- fident you will follow the Catholic standard we have followed. Your future will ever be guided bv vour Catholic character, and as vou follow in our foot-Steps, may God watch over vou, and shower His blessings upon vou! They beat Tech B , Sauk Rapids and Paynesville, but lost to Melrose, Foley, CHomecoming gamej and Nlilaca. Due to inclement weather, the sched- uled game with St. johns was cancelled. Thirty-five boys worked for a position on the first eleven when training started. Al- though we were minus seven of last year's regulars, there were eleven lettermen back . . . XVally Reichert, Mike Plantenberg, VVillie Backes, Narge Faber, Dick Zierden, Marty Mobs, Dick Terhaar, Bitz Grams, Schengl Dockendorf, Doc Simon and Pont Rausch. liven with all these lettermen back, there were a few newcomers in the starting lineup. This is how the team looked when it took to the field, XVally Reichert, fullback and captain, Bupps Athmann. quarterback, only a soph, but he did a spectacular job of piloting his teammates, Mike Plantenberg, left half, VVilly llackes, righ half, Narge Faber, right end, Dick Zierden, right tackle, .Xlarty Mobs, right guard, Dick Terhaar, left guard, Bitz Grams, left tackle, Ray Thull, left end, and Doc Simon, center. Bob Athmann and Ray Thull were the only ones that earned their first letter. Others who earned a letter this year are Schengle Dockendorf, Don Thiesen, Don Bell, Obbie Linn, joe Neis, jerome Mever and Pont Rausch. i This is the season's record: .Xll'fl.ROSl'f: The Springers lost 7-0 in the last four minutes of the game. The quarterbacking by Athmann and the running by Reichert just wasn't enough to beat Melrose. TIQCH BU: Tech was out-played practically all the way. The sparkling play of the game was a pass from Athmann to Thull for a total gain of 55 yds. The Springers won . . . 20-0. 7aoz'Zcz!! SAUK RAPIDS: In spite of a drizzly cold night, the springers managed to roll up a 27-0 win over the Indians. Reichert ran the ball across into the proviced for two T.D.'s. A pass from Athmann to Faber gave us six more points and an interception by Simon was run back for another touchdown. PAYNICSVIILF: The Bonnies squeezed out a 13 to 7 win over Paynesville in their home- coming game. The Springers were losing 6 to 7 with only I4 seconds to go in the game, when a pass from Plantenberg to Thull gave us an- other six points, the extra point was good, giving us a total of 13. FOLIQY CHomecomingj: The Springers, al- though they played the hardest fought game of the year, lost to the bigger and more expe- rienced Foley club. The Springers never gave up, even though they were outplayed pretty near all the way. The score at the end of the game was 6-0. MILACA: This was the last game of the sea- son and also the last game for XVally Reichert, Mike Plantenberg, NVilly Backes, Narge Feber, Dick Zierdcn, Marty Mobs, Dick Terhaar, Bitz Grams, Schengl Dockendorf, Doc Simon, Pont Rausch, joe Nies, and jerome Meyer. The game started out with bad luck and ended the same wav. Mike carried the ball back on the kick off, and was in the clear, but a charley horse stopped him and he was finally brought down from behind. ln the closing minutes, some beautiful passes by Linn just seemed to slip through their lingers.
