He chose poverty so that he Could love better. This form of renunciation --humble, ready to love, ready to be of service to a fellowman, and asking nothing in return-became St. Francis's ideal for peace. This conception ot' poverty is taught to Bonaventurites as a means of greater understanding among themselves and as a means of realiz- ing a lasting peace through a brotherhood of individuals.
