We do so in gratitude, for it is you and others like you who -spell Victory for Democracy and Freedom. You and your sacrifices make it possible for us to continue our education - education which has as- sumed a new, more powerful, more serious role, for it has become EDUCATION FOR VICTORY. For We too must play' our part in the speedy events of the age - during the course of the War, and in the post-war period of mora1'and material reconstruction. The physical ties of our sound friendships will be broken as we shall enter into a new life and a new world, a World torn by the treacheries of a bloody War. To you, fellow students, we present this 1943 Serafph, as a picture of the life We have been living - joyous and carefree, yet tinged with earnest seriousness and sincer- ity. May this book recall the sacred tradi- tions of a glorious past and remind you of a still greater future. May it revisualize into your minds the beauty of the campus, the close brotherhood of gentlemen, and the atmosphere of the culture that is ours, woven into the distinctive, never to be forgotten pattern, the ideals of St. Bonaventure. With its distinctive theme - VICTORY THROUGH EDUCATION-may it remind you of the part We have been playing as contempor- aries of this great World War II, doing our bit as students, striving 'to reach that final goal, ultimate victory for our country over the enemy. And if in later years, when memories shall have faded and remembrances shall have passed into oblivion, this 1943 Seraph can keep fresh the memories of friends, haunts and happenings. And if in it you can live again those memorable days spent on the campus of St. Bonaventure 's, then, and only then, will the 'joy of service in preparing this volume be ours.
