Guess Who - The End What can I say, other than thank you, about everything we've exper- fenced this year. As a staff, you've been terrific. There have been some tough moments, but we've over- come them all. Through it all, we've kept our sense of humor, even if we did lose our sanity! But most important, treat this as a ma- jor accomplishment in your lives. You've produced a work that will bé ‘read and used throughout your lives, no matter what the criticisms! It offered a chance for each of the two classes to become well-ac quainted with each other. a ing began with a pot-luck supper provided by the Seniors. Fc 0d ranged from ; lavish dishes to simple desserts. The remainder of the evening was filled with fun for ally ended with a dance. All went well and each class certainly enjoyed a everyone and |! Homecoming Homecoming Weekend was an exciting event at St. Bernard's. Activities ranged from Blue and Gold Day to a hall-decorating contest which was won by the Seniors, but the Juniors came in a close second. Both classes had a day out of dress code, and the Seniors had a doughnut breakfast. Highlighting the Homecoming activities were a bonfire rally and the traditional dance. Both were filled with much spirit. Homecoming King and Queen, Ronnie Arsenault and Kelly Morse, were announced during the dance. The Homecoming Court consisted of Seniors, Mary Curley and Peter Cassinari; Juniors, Peter Zarella and Bridget Moriarty; Sophomores, Louis Membrino and Chris Cormier, and Freshmen, Peter Richards and Becky Johnson. Although we lost to the Red Raiders, we played hard, putting forth our best effort. Homecoming Weekend was a great success! On Saturday, October 9, St. Bernard's High School held their homecoming game against Fitch- burg High School. The game took place at 1:30 at the bowl. Despite the weather conditions there were no Clouds over the spirits of the people that day. Many people withstood the damp accomodations but the Homecoming Queen and court still showed up to brighten everyone's spirits; The colorful class banners were creative and showed the talents of the four classes. All the tootball players tried their best and with the school supporting them they did their best. Even though we lost the game, this homecom- ing will be one to be remembered. c Ome OF THE BERNARDIANS Tos) §=BALON OTR c u (ieee ‘ Fix ca mag - = “a } Sophomore Barbecue The Sophomore Chicken Barbeque was in fact the Junior Barbeque. Because of heavy rains, it had been postponed from the previous school year. But there was not a cloud in the sky to dampen anyone's spirit. It was a pertect day, and the spirit showed through. The Barbeque was a great success and, because of the many activities, was fun for all. It was held on Sunday, October 10, and was the final official event of homecoming weekend. The Juniors, under the guidance of Mrs. Ceredona and Sister Janice, served a meal of barbequed chicken, corn-on- the-cob, potato chips, and soda. Games were played, and when it was over, everyone agreed that it was worth the 4-month delay. Senior Retreat The spot for this year's senior class retreat was Barlin Acres, located in West Boylston, Massachusetts. The retreat be- gan the last week in September and con- cluded the first week in November. On Wednesday and Thursday of each week, each group of seniors spent time in find- ing their relationship with God. The au- tumn air added to our time spent in meditation and prayer. Along with Father Hannigan and Sister Anne Fournier, the Senior class started off a successful year that began with these spiritual retreats. The team finished its season with a 12 - 2 - 6 record with powerful wins over Wachusett, Leominster, Fitchburg, and Notre Dame Academy. The captains of this year's team were Mary Bovenzi, Celeste Comeau, and Jean- nine Groeninger. Standouts on the team were Patty Surrette, Theresa Viau, Chris Ouelevy, and Bridget Moriarty. To com- plement their outstanding season, the team finished in first place in the tough Central Massachusetts Conference and advanced to the District 3 semifinals before losing to Black- stone- Millville by a score of 1 - 0. After only three short years of a field hockey program at St. Bernards, Coach Bettie Langlois has built a team that can be considered one of the best in Worcester County. The team was coached by returning coach, Walter Beede. Leaders of the team were varsity Captain, senior, Tom Be- dard and J.V. captain, junior, Chris Borg. This year proved to be much improved over last year's team with great effort put out by the sophomores and particularly by juniors Michael Breau, Tom Croteau, Neal Ambrose, and Bob Keating. The team placed a strong fourth at the C.M.C.'S and did very well at the Wachusett Invitational. Departing Seniors include Tom Bedard, Alan Feeney, and Tom Cherry. This year’s team was spirited on by Coach Jeanne DiNardo. The captains of the team were juniors; Patricia Moore, Melissa Krelty, and Debra Normandin. The girls did extremely well at the C.M.C.’s with Patty Moore finishing first followed by her sophomore sister, Chris, pulling in a strong second and a fourth place finish by the team. This year's outstanding runners include the Moore sisters along with sophomore Karen Micciche and frosh Karen McNabb. Going winless in ten games, the Bernar- dians proved that they had spirit even if their record was deficient. Coach Walter Carew spent his last season with the team, and his influence was very much in evidence in the sportsmanlike behavior of the team. Many players were outstanding in various games, and no one could say that the team laid down and let their opponents run all over them. The highlight of the season was the superb play of the team in the Clinton game on Thanksgiving morning! St. Bernards says good- bye to Coach Carew and wishes him success in the future. ik kg mala, r= a - , 4 e Ore ol ¥ Pees go Fe , . ow one EWM ie Ogee HORT — - oe TI ig ss { Le Cheerleaders ; In order to promote excellent school spirit, cheerleaders are as important to a sports’ program as the athletes themselves.
