In the “Sound of Music,” Cheryl Gagne was Maria. The Moth Abbess, played by Marie Plette, questions Maria’s potential as a nun and discusses the situation with three other nuns—Beth Garneau, Donna Infantino, and Almetha Ford. They decide that abbey life is not for Maria and send her as governess to the home of Captain Von Trapp, Paul Grautski. The Captain tries to run his home on a strict naval regime with the result that his seven children, played by Geralyn Slovenkai, Joseph Moriarty, Erin O’Connell, Daniel Richard, Kelly Reardon, Louise Beland, and Patricia Whitney are most difficult to handle. When Liesl, the oldest, slips out to meet Rolf, played by Thomas Reardon, she is forced to return through Maria’s window. This escapade is the beginning of friendly relations with Maria. When the Captain goes to Vienna to visit his fiancee, the Baroness, played by Lisa Berube, Maria wins the children over completely. Shortly after the Captain returns with the Baroness and Max Detweiler, protrayed by Matthew Gauvin, he realizes that it is not the Baroness he loves but Maria. The Von Trapp family later flee the country to safety and freedom when the Germans invade Austria. Others of the class of ’80 appearing in the performance were: Ann Foley, Frank Zanghi, Thomas Fantozzi, Barbara Eilerman, Laura Kent, James Cote, Lorie Lynch, Joyce Leger, and Michelle Comeau.
