TO HAVE AND TO HOLD DAYS OF BLUE AND DAYS OF GOLD May this 1979 BERNARDIAN be for us a storehouse of memo- ries, Remembrances of our four happy years of high school together, Memories always to have and possess as one’s very dear own, To hold on to and retain in loving affection for ever and ever, Not for a day, not for a year, but as long as life shall last. True to life, every day was not a day of gold and sunshine, With everything smoothly and successfully going our way, Rather, interspersed here and there were the days of blue, When in spite of our best efforts everything went wrong, Not turning out to be the big success we had dreamed of. But those days of blue we will cherish, too, and remember. Looking back now, we see that everything was for our good, Even the days of blue, of failure, and of disappointments.

Now having achieved and reached the vantage point of senior year, We look back and survey the progress we have made step by step, Beginning with those first momentous days when we were freshmen Taking our first uncertain steps on our high school career. In spite of our forced air of assurance and bold self-reliance, We were awed and inwardly fearful of the mighty, powerful senior. THE FIRST — But little by little we came out of our shells and moved about GREEN YEAR Entering into class and school activities full of life and vigor. Peace is an inner harmony... Only whole things flourish. A machine lacking oil or with a part missing is hardly ‘at peace.’ It squeaks or grinds or self-destructs or does not run at all. A human person who lacks love or honesty or purity or justice is necessarily a disordered human being. He cannot have inner peace because he is missing ‘parts.’ —Thomas Dubay
