Her scholastic attainments plus her splendid workin caring for an attractive victim of the Mumps in the school play of '32 won for her much praise. Her genial manner is enhanced by a scarlet blush which is very becom- ing. Good luck to our Class Secretary, is the wish of all. I W fTTT?R l- EOPOLD ARTHUR BLAIS fl noble heart, like the sun, shotueth its greatest countenance in its lowest estate. Paully from the beginning of our high school course has ever been a true and loyal member of the Class of '33. Operating on a seven-day-week basis he spreads good cheer wherever he goes. He is, moreover, a great sport and extremely popular among the students, both boys and girls. He has figured in almost all the school activities distinguishing himself particularly in the Athletic and Debating Club. Best of luck. Paully. LAURA CECILP Bono She is gentle of nature. l,aura is another student who came to out school the Sophomore year. She is usually so quiet that you are hardly aware of her presence in the classroom, but we know that when she is with her companions out- side of school she can be as jolly as the IQSI of us. Her most intimate chum is Blanche Cauvin and together they have enjoyed to the utmost the delights of high school without sacrificing the careful preparation of lessons. May you continue the good work in your future life. l.aura. IVIARGARFT RITIX BURKE An ounce of wit is worth cz pound of sorrowf Peg is another cheerful spirit when things seem dull. She always wears a smile and is ready with a cheerful word. This disposition will surely be appre- ciated when Peg is busy typing or taking shorthand notes in a busy ofhce. May your ever-jovial attitude continue. Margaret, in the coming years, EDNA PRISCILLA CARDINAL Her hair was not more sunny than her heart. A pleasant smile and gentle voice are what we truly admire in Edna. Although she has only been with us from her Junior year her cheerfulness made a lasting impression. She has followed the commercial course and hopes soon to be tapping on a typewriter for some large business firm where we trust she will be happy. i w 1 4 lVlARY AGNES CARTER Of manners gentle, of affections mild. Here is Mary, one of ourclassmates from Leominster who has persevered in coming every day, rain or shine. She has been a member of the commercial course since her entrance to St. Bernard's in her Sophomore year. Of a rather demure and quiet disposition she has won a great many friends among us, and we are sure that her pleasant smile will help her to attain a happy and successful future. CLARANCE JOSEPH CHRISTIAN The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection. If by some unfortunate stroke of bad luck, Clarance cannot achieve the position in life he desires, he has in his makeup many remarkable endowments of which he can make use. He is an excellent artist, attracted to all forms of science, and manual labor, and is eager to give everything he has toward the accomplishment of some task no matter how difiicult it may be. It is his readi- ness to cooperate and his eagerness to help that have won for him praise and popularity. THOMAS BERNARD CON ROY 'LII is of little traits that the greatest human character is composed. To see is to believe. That is the way one has to arrive at a definite opinion about Tom. In the classroom he is always quiet and somber, never disturbing any- one, but outside of school he is a different lad entirely. We find him a friendly, likeable chap with plenty of wit and a personality that beams on all like the morning sunshine. Much credit is due to Tom for his work in connection with our Class Book, and most heartily we extend to him our farewell wishes. EDGAR ARTHUR CROTFAU The dearest friend, the kindest man. To observe Edgar while he is busy studying during the hours of school one would think that he really en- joyed it more than anything else in the world but in outside activities he is as full of fun and mischief as any other modern youth. He takes much pleasure in accomplishing things and what is more he even endeav- ors to do things right and well. We find this illustrated in a hobby of his, namely, that of playing the violin. We hope Edgar will reach as high as his ambition will take him because he is backed by the many wishes of the entire Senior Class. ..,g ,1 it 1 4 1 l Y l 1 'f WYV 7' ff' l7 l7' 'IJ 'JTlJl i 'X.l1. It was with a great de- ,ig n. 'SP if gree of happiness that we concluded our Grammar school career because we knew Q Q? that ahead of us lay an interesting, eventful chapter, headed High School. So, as E34 49 we slowly turn the page we see ourselves moving swiftly across the clear, white pages as Freshmen. The first year we did not contribute very largely to the social activities of S.B.H.S. Our assembly programs, however, were presented with a EEZ charming simplicity that delighted the upper classmen. Appropriately our first +3 performance was in March for St. Patrick's day in a skit entitled Kissing the Blarney Stone. Later we presented A Lady Comes to Call which was an if extremely interesting and ably produced one act play. Our next offering was a scene from the famous William Tell. Will we ever forget that! Our assemblies 534, '95 were closed with extracts from Shakespeare. How naive and unassuming we were that first year. We smile slightly. Then a swift turn of the page and we El M, - are Sophomores. -Lf F44- 49 . an 1 1 Cat O' Nine Tails, the annual play under the direction of Fr. Among the outstanding features of the year of ,RQ Q. . 1932 we see the clever, amusing farce, The Mummy and the lVlumps. Eg. a Christmas pageant admirably presented which added greatly to the Yuletide spirit. Again on February 19, S.B.H.S. was among the first schools in the city to observe the Washington Bi-Centennial celebration. We presented a most in- .QE teresting program consisting of patriotic selections by the High School Chorus Eiga accompanied by the High School orchestra, an essay on Washington's life, a QT? minuet, and short dramatic sketches entitled l732 and The Spy. Finally Ti we had the crowning event of the year-the Junior-Senior Reception. The 'if pages are going by swiftly now, too swiftly. We turn the next page very slowly, trying to prolong this chapter which now seemed so near its end. Thus we en- tered our Senior Year. SE as This year marked the initial appearance of the Boys' Glee Club, which L'-lie showed much talent and promised much for the future. The highlight of this, gif our last year was the celebration of the Silver Jubilee of our beloved Monsignor as Pastor of St. Bernard's Parish. We tried to show in our small way our appre- 492 ciation for all he has done for us during the past twenty-five years by giving a rg? pageant, The Shepherd of His Flock, in honor of C1od's priesthood. An E address by our Class President was given telling of some of the achievements E2 which our Pastor has accomplished in St. Bernard's Parish. We could not pos- Q sibly show how much we appreciate all Monsignor has done for us. We know E50 he has our welfare, and intellectual as well as moral education constantly at EEG, heart. We are sincerely grateful to our principal, Reverend Father Mulcahy, Eff 3-if truly a guiding spirit in our school who, together with our zealous, courageous 'Lib teachers, has endeavored to teach us the true and worthwhile ideals of this our , earthly life. So, it is with regret that we close this chapter. EZ ig Many new chapters are still to be Written, but none of them shall have the Eg simplicity and carefree happiness which was ours during our four years' stay at ECG St. Bernard's High School. c E 953 Ei'-t 'PIG mam J ' . f' ' . . rw r fv2gy,,'f va .wwf-' rp' fy- - f . Looking Back Over The Years Freshman Year September 1929. Ah, what delight was ours on entering high school. About the middle of the term we lost many friends through the change of home rooms but soon made new ones. As freshmen we displayed our dramatic ability in the St. Pattick's Day program. In April a reception was given in honor of our beloved pastor and principal who had recently returned from Florida. We looked forward with much eagerness to the time when we would be Sophs.. QW Sophomore Year Happy Sophomores at last. Football season soon opened, Rah! Rah! Rah! Before the Christmas holidays, The Choicest Gift,f' was presented at assembly and was most enjoyable. Greetings were heard on every side- Merry Christ- mas to All. Everyone made New Year resolutions and we hope that very few were broken. The cast for the annual play was selected in which the,f'Sophs were well represented 'and what a success it turned out to be! We were most happy at Easter for we felt June was nearer than ever and we longed for the pleasures of vacation and release from the books. Though shadows of darkness around us may creep We must strive fo be happy and bright One place in our hearts forever we'll keep- 'Our school as a constant delight. To linger in thoughts as we age, To bring back our past With a smile And the friendships that cling Will make our hearts sing For these are the memories worth while. And so, my dear school friends, as years pass us by With hearts full of love We will turn The flame of our loyalty on earth and on high, Forever its luster will burn.
