QE, Graduates of '56: You have the distinct honor of being the Diamond lubilee Year grad- uates of your school. This, indeed, is an honor and a distinction. May we remind you that the vision, the sacrifices, the heroic efforts and the struggles of the early pioneers-priests, sisters, and laity-are part and parcel of your High School Diploma this year. lt is the fruit of their labors, their efforts and their prayers. Proudly, you call yourselves Crusaders The very name paints in your imagination the picture of a mounted knight, clad in armor with a drawn sword ready for battle. Filled with the spirit of the knights of old . . take up the armor of God that you may be able to resist the evil day and stand in all things perfect . . This do and you will bring honor to yourself, prestige to your corn- munity and glory to God. May the good Lord bless and keep you. Sincerely, Daniel I. Ryan A solemn hymn of thanksgiving for the honor bestowed upon Monsignor Ryan was sung on November 27, 1955, when he was invested as a Domestic Prelate. Students and parish- oners bear witness to the worthiness of their pastor, who has contributed so much to the spiritual and material welfare of St, Bernar- dine's. ln the eight years that he has been here, St. Bernardine High School has changed its campus by the addition of a new wing of eight classrooms, a new gymnasium, and a home economics department. Both students and faculty congratulate Monsignor on his accomplishments. symphon y His Excellency congratulates the new Monsignor 13 ' 13 4112. f . ,.1., w, V, Serious talk is sometimes necessary to stimulate real think- ing. Monsignor Ryan gave of his time and parish duties to give guidance to any student who sought it. Speaking with lerry Kastigar and Ed Blakely, Monsignor advises them in regard to the essays to be written for the citizenship contest. Monsignor also taught the senior marriage course and pre, pared future parents for the building of good strong Christian ' Spiritual Harmony is their responsibility lv-.gy Father Iames P. Began looks amused at two of his sophomore religion students, Buthanne Gilbert and Cathy McGann, who seem to have a few confused ideas. Father taught the truths ot Holy Faith to the freshmen and one section of sophomores. His patience and willingness to listen made him an excellent adviser to the under- classmen. The Block B Athletic Association was under his direc- tion. .WQMR1 . , Sf ' Besides teaching junior and sophomore religion, Father Donald B. Kulleck issued canteen cards, worked with dance chaperons, and supervised other phases of campus social lite. Betty Munana and Dolores Badke were among many who got his approval to bring outsiders to school dances. Father stimulated the spiritual well-being of his students by working with them to build Christian social principles. n NCVGITDQI, S1st-ers of the lrzi- iacuiate Heart gathered to elebrate their Diamond lubilee 1 St. Bernardzne s.
