I4 nfezgdad ' On November 9th, St. Bernard was privileged to host a group of very bright Japanese students. The day started out with donuts and orange juice in the library, where Fr. Kidney spoke to them about SBHS. The students then were taken on a tour of the classrooms, and while walking the halls, they became quite fascinated with the hall decorations for Homecoming Week. At lunchtime, the students were able to mingle with the student body in the court yard and participate in the homecoming lunch ac- tivities. After lunch, the students observed a mock Stu- dent Council meeting put on by our student body. The purpose of this was to give the Japanese students a taste of how our school government is established. The day ended with a volleyball game between the Japanese students and SBHS students. This day was a very historic one not only for SBHS, but also for the country, itself. To think that at one time the Japanese were once considered to be an enemy to the American people and the American government, and here are the newer generation visiting America and being treated and welcomed with open arms. We will truely cherish this day and this experience. . 'sg - we 'nt - ACTIVITIES 41

Wekome Z Welcome Week was the time to welcome our incoming Freshmen to SBHS and also welcome the other classes back. The theme of the week was The Voyage Continues , which signified our 30th Anniversary celebration of SBHS. For the entire week, SBHS students were involved with ac- tivities such as big brother and big sister, and a lunch time dance, which was somewhat of a preview for our annual Welcome Dance held that weekend. But the Welcome Assembly was the highlight of week . The assembly made the Freshmen feel that they were part of the St. Bernard family, while also letting them know about the privileges of SENIORS. 1. Ken Gomez, Tamara Payne, and Desiree Davis at the Welcome Assemble. 2. Ed Bangasser says to us that even though the 60's are gone, peace is still cool! 3. Arlene Searcy does a realistic job as an elder Viking looking back. 4. A Freshman learns the penalty for disobeying a Senior. 5. Japanese Culture mingling with American Culture. 6. Japanese students enter Club Tropicana by turning Hawaiian. 7. Japanese students enjoy American soft drinks from our gracious vending machines. 8.
