O For two days the City of Angels was blessed by the presence of his Holy Father Pope John Paul II. The Pope arrived on September 15th and traveled by means of the Pope Mobile , Vi- biana's, in L.A., where he was loclgedvfor his two day stay. d A Pope John Paul II was a busy man after his arrival. After a short rest at St. Vi- biana's he. traveled to the Universal Amphitheater where he spoke with over 6,000 youths from around the country. The monumental event was arranged by our own Principal, Fr. Kidney. The highlight of this event was the playing of the guitar by Tony Melendez who is armless and plays with his toes. In the afternoon the Pope met with 1,450 Hollywood big wigs at the Registry Hotel in Universal City. I-Ie discussed their responsiblity to the public on portraying sex, drugs and other moral issues. He ended his first evening by perform- ing rnass for 65,472 people at Dodger Stadium. On his final day in Los Angeles the Pope pmet with 300 of the Bishops. He discussedjfistheiiiyiifrespon- sibilities of lla' rngood Catholic. He alsofperformed mass at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, where approximately 100,000 people received Holy Communion in less than 20 minutes. The Pope has beenaquoted as say- ing his visit toflinrnaculate 36 ACTIVITIES!
