Mgcafwhl ' ecause this is St. Bernard High School's 30th Year Anniversary, we, the 1988 yearbook staff, thought that it would be interesting to find out some things about the first coup e graduating classes from SBHS. So we sent out questionnaires to the first five graduating classes of SBHS, 1961-1965. There was a total of 802 questionnaires sent out while at the same time the 1988 graduating class fill- ed out a similar questionnaire. The results were beyond expectations. A lot was learned about our school's past first hand from the people who once attended SBHS. For example, a graduate of '64 answers the question about the fact that the boys and girls were separate, like this: Yes, I did flike itj because there were few distractions and 'girls' could talk freely about subjects that were too personal to discuss in front of the guys . . . Yet another graduate of '64, Marie Goodman Schaenfelder, answer the same question like this: No, it wasn't natural. We were going to be to ether sooner or later in life! It certainly didnt keep us from thinking about them, eitherll This same type of the contrasting opinions about a certain school issue exists in this year's senior class. There are some seniors, fthe ma- jority of themb who really don't have any views on the uniform because they feel that it's their last year at SBHS so it really doesn't hurt anyone to wear it for another couple months until graduation. Or these people might be the males in our senior class who don't really have a strict dress code and they really don't feel af- fected by the uniforms. But the most fun that was discovered through these questionnaires is the uestion which asks what the person's most emgizarrass- ing moment was while at SBHS. A graduate from '62 wrote: When Brother Anselm lex- boxerj slapped me for laughing in his class. The impact put me through three rows of desks! And another woman who said her most embar- rassing moment was being thrown into the boys' showers by three boys while there were already some boys in there taking shower. These answers are only a couple from approx- imately the hundred and twenty that we received. Some of the most embarrassing moments for the class of '88 are very much the same: falling down the stairs, skirts flying up due to the wind, etc. However, Azizi Jones writes, When after the senior retreat, I didn't have a ride home. So I waited for hours then finally I car- ried my suitcase, book pack, and sleeping bag on the bus. Some of the peoples' embarrassing moments are too personal and would not be appropriate for an article like this, but one can clearly see that everyone seems to have those embarrass- ing moments one time or another, but the ques- tion is how one handles it!! Below is a chart of some of the things the first five graduating classes were involved in and a comparison to what this year's graduating class does and their opinions. The 1988 Yearbook Staff would like to ex- tend our gratitudes to those who answered the questionnaires. Without your answers this page would not exist.
