Countless functions of family life were taught throughout the year in the Home Economics courses offered at S.B.G.H.S. Basic skills in sewing and cooking helped each girl to pre- pare for the necessities of being future housewives. Debbie Faulk listens closely to lessons on being a good housewife. Home Economics classes enable Barbara Sahanen and Bernadine Drabik to learn the diverse techniques and skills of sew- ing. 39

Maura Iames studies the ancient civilizations through World His- tory. M.A.I. Program Introduced ae E. Maclnnis studies U.S. History with the flag as a symbolic reminder. Studying history enabled students to relate past events to the present. Ancient, European, American and newly- introduced Modern American Issues, consisting of eco- nomics and P.O.D. were offered to students. Social Studies evaluated day events and sparked an interest in the prob- lems of today's world. P.O.D. enables Chris Burgess to evaluate our nation's problems. Ready to make any changes, Sandra Damiecki carefully checks her notes. Darlene Barnes directs her attention to the lecture on the American Revolu- tion. M' 10199.

Courses Enrich Individual Knowledge Carol Riley and Karen Schell review notes in French culture. Karen Weller concentrates on the complexities of Oriental studies. 40 Various subjects were introduced this year through enrich- ment courses. Russian history, Afro-American studies and Oriental cultures were offered for history scholars. Science was explored in history of science and biology seminars while notehand, speed reading, speech and Writer's sketch- pad aided in successful school work. Creative dance, gym- nastics, sewing, cooking and theater arts demonstrated stu- dent originality. Other enrichment courses included hu- manities, journalism, French culture, introductory Spanish, introductory college math and chorus. i Wnwqwwmwwfrwwwmwmwwwwmwaw Mary Bessette and Donna Piascik clap without interest, but Wendy Thaxton watches attentively as she keeps rhythm for a song learned in chorus. Sherril Powers learns the art of sewing in her sewing enrichment course.
