The play is to be presented in late November. Tryouts were held for three days last week, with twenty- two people coming out for parts on the first day alone. Tom Owston landed the part of Becket, the central character of the play. There are also four Knights which will be portray- ed by Bob Long, Gerry Wilders, Bob Greer, and Bill Pauls. Tony Burns, John Hunt, and Frank White are scheduled to play the parts of Priests in MITC, with George Caspar as a Messenger. The Chorus, the use of 'which dates from Ancient Greek plays, will act as a narrator in the course of the production. Its members include Mary Jo Brown, Bridget Cook, Cecilia Grabber, Rhonda Lavender, Janet Levesque, Fran Walsh, and Linda Weimann. Ed Long, Tom Metcalfe, and Rich Vanslavie will play the parts of Attendants, which are non-speaking roles. Murder in the Cathedral was tentatively scheduled to be staged once before, in the spring of 1970, when production snags brought on a cancellation be- fore most of the work was ac'- complished. The play deals with the murder of Thomas a Becket, an Archbishop of Canterbury in medieval times. His death came as a result of a command uttered in anger by Becket's long time friend, Henry II of England. As one might guess, they constantly bickered over the duties and responsibilities of the Catholic Church and the English monarchy. Ernie Porter, Editor First Semester 'This semester's effort is the eighth such production to be directed and produced by Mr, Minhanl T-lnwlnu nf- the Qnf'
