Since man's entire raison d'etre is a religious one, his knowledge of God should progress with his knowl- edge ot worldly things. Because the end ot Christian education is the harmonious correlation ot both the intellectual and spiritual capacities of the student, theology, taking in the totality of man's relations be- tween his earthly lite and his super- natural destiny, must be an intrinsic part of his education. Our teachers have endeavored to turn us out as Christian gentlemen They have wished that we be not men capable only of repeating Cath- olic tormulae. but men whose minds are pierced through and through with the vital truths ot our faith We have seen through the teaching not only of the Religion department but ot all the priests. that Catholic- ism is not merely a creed, but a cul- ture, a mode ot lite, the way to everlasting happiness. 3- L Q ' 1 e ' 2, Al 1 1 - I Q 91' x I I ,A 8 4 52, i' 4 i I 1 , 7 X . To devote oneself entirely to the intellectual pursuits of life is a de- privation, for the complete man needs exercise, competition, a chance to activate the physi- cal blessings of youth. Life contains many competitive areas through which all must pass sooner or later. There is no better way to prepare oneself for these competitions than through competitive sports. However, competition is not the only benefit derived from sports. Sports also teach us to strive for wins and to accept setbacks. Our entire system would be a failure if this were not done in a manner befitting the Catholic principles taught to us at St. Benedict's. lt is imperative that we learn the meaning of good sportsmanship and fair play. At St. Benedict's, we are given the opportunity to participate in athletics at various levels: varsity, junior varsity, intramurals, and even informally in gym class. Our varsity teams not only compete for themselves, but also for the honor of the school. Therefore, truly, our athletic system is For Thee . 'ill '71 'ffsmf ze 12? ' ,-a. ',j +. M? 4 .
