- As the wheels of time gently turn, enthusiastically we turn these pages to find the Words and photography that record the activities ofthe Saint Augustine,s FAMILY throughout the year. The scenic beauty of Saint Augustinels College, captured behind the lenses of our aspiring photographers, allows us to soar like the Falcon, above the clouds - into the future. - Bridgette Deanne Rolle - I' X r I+ .I A J 13. 5 f X F 5 A 31 'Q l, '- 5 K 1 - if eg! Fa I in IF If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you. If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too, If you can wait and not be tried by waiting, Or being lied about, donlt deal in lies, Or being hated donlt give way to hating, And yet don,t look too good, nor talk too wise: If you can dream-and not make dreams your master, If you can think-and not make thought your aim, If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two imposters just the same, If you can bear to hear the truth you,ve spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and buildyem up with worn-out tools: If you can make one heap of all your winnings, And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss, If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: i'Hold only If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, or walk with kings-nor lose the commom touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too muchg If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds, worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And-which is more-youlll be a Man, my son! Look at us, all different, but yet we are the same: Bound together by one Creator, brought into existence by one Name. Created for a purpose with an objective in mind: Knowing no limits: yet still conscious of the time. Realizing, from birth-to-death, there is a task to be done: Trials to endure, and victories to be won. It's not enough to say, I am somebody and do for ourselves: But, if you're really someone, when you do something for someone 91531 Like salt, in the midst of pepper, we must light the way: Not anticipating a Tomorrow, but doing for today. In our talent, our intelligence, our obsession to overcome: Our creativity, our beauty shining bright like the Sun. In expression, in style, in culture, from the beginning, from the start: In our origin, our Creator brings us together in our Hearts. , ZZMZQLX , f nu J fer x X..-.f . ., -- ..- .-3, 3 , . I.- . Since the begin- ning of time, there has never been another person like you. Nobody has 'your smile. Nobody has your eyes, your nose, your hair, your hands, your voice. You,re Special. QNo one sees things just as you do. I n all of time there has been no one who laughs like you, no one who cries like you. And what makes you laugh and cry will never provoke identical laughter and tears from anybody else, ,ever. You are the only one in Godjs creation with your set of natural abilities. There will always be somebody who is better at one ofthe things you,re good at but no one in the universe can reach the quality of your combination of talents, ideas, natural abilities and spiritual abilities Like a room full of A . 1' imusical instruments, some may excell alone but none can match the 5 esymphony sound ofthe Body of C hrist when all are played together because God set the members every one of them in the Body as it hath pleased him. l I 1 I 1 P , 1 Through all of eternity no one will ever look, talk, walk, think or do exactlylg like you. Youare special. youlre rare. And, as in all rarity, there is great? value. Because of your great rare value you need not attempt to imitate others. You Should accept- yes, celebrate- yourdyfferences. Youare spe- cial. Continue to real ize it,s not an accident that youlre special. Continue to 5 see that God created you special for a very special purpose. He called you out and ordained you to a calling that no one else can do as well as you. Out ' of all the billions of applicants, only one is qualwed, only one has the best E combination of what it takes. That just as .surely a.s every .snowflake that' falls has a perfect design and no two designs are the same, so within the Body of Christ also. No two believers are the same and without each member the Body would be lacking and Godls plan would be incomplete. Ask the Father to teach you His divine plan for your life and that it may stand forth revealed to you as it should, unfolding in peifect .sequence and perfect order in such a way a.s to bring the greatest glory to His name. That one is you. Because youlre special! This holds true for St. Augustineis as well. At St. Augustines, we are proud ofthe fact that we have a volleyball team that has won the CIAA tournament for the last eleven years, a tournament for which this college has practically written the rules. In fact, St. Augustines made it to the NAIA championship games with an unblemished record of thirty-nine wins. In addition to volleyball having great student athletes who boast CPAIS of more than 3.6 cumulatively, the teams in the past eleven years have been represented by some ofthe best coaches to ever enter the'CIAA volleyball circuit. Volleyball at St. Augustines is like volleyball no place in or around North Carolina, This is due in part to the international flavor ofplayers and coaches, that make for a new kind ofuspicen when one says volleyball at the Aug N So hats ofI'to the volleyball teams, past and present! You have had a great eleven years. Congratulations!! VOLLEYBALL I Coach Cartwright poses with his dis- tinguished group of Champs! As we sum up yet another year, We can be proud of the fact that We have rubbed shoulders with some of the finest people from all over the World. We have seen St. Augustine,s expand its facilities. We have developed and pioneered our minds in the areas of science, business, communications and many other career oriented fields, thus, bringing about an enviable tradi- tion of learning. This commemorative publication, dedicated to the President, exemplifies the growth and development on our campus. Let,s continue our struggle, mighty Falcons. Our future demands strategic thinkers, be one of them. Sophia A. Rolle AUTOGRAPHS AUTQGRAPHS All that mankind has done, thought, gained, or been: it is lying in magic preservation in the pages of books. - Thomas Carlyle - The 1987 Saint Augustineps Falcon is but a small SU11llHk1tlO1l of the events, personalities, and associations that We have encountered during the past year. It is my earnest desire that We, the Falcon staff, have entombed Within the folds of this annual, a fitting portrayal ofthe inspiration, integrity, and determination that reside here at Saint Augustineis College. In the future, We hope that this book can be relied upon to serve as a stimulus to urge our companions on to the realization of their goals and that it will also help to implant Within them a self that is loyal, determined, and intelligent in all of its future endeavors. - Anthony K.
