We are not ashamed of our African Heritage. The Blacks have paved their way, Starting in the Valley of the Nile, Since pre-historic days, We dwelt among the ancient gods, Made literature with the Greeksg They sought the Ethiopians, to hold their royal feast. If we could trace our history And find the concrete truth, We'd see the continent of Africa Remain civilization's root. As we trace the beginning of mankind Through the boundless realm, The Blacks are referred to As the oldest, the wisest, and most of all, most just of men The Rape of Ethiopia was a cruel one, A sorhid, pitiful taleg Four hundred years we wound to the sea And boarded the ships as slaves. Many suffered and died aboard the ships And were cast into the sea, While others toiled throughout the day In rice and cotton fieldsg Yet we did not give up our hopesg We trust in God to see A new birth of freedom, and a true democracy. Yet struggling for freedom against great odds, Though we are America's Sons, We fought with white men in our war And their victory we won. Crispus Attucks gave his lifeg He was first to die for the stars and stripesg And so our Black history goesg With General Washington at Valley Forge, There we fought and also died In frozen snow 'neath frosty skies. In human bondage we still remain Then the Blacks struggled and broke their chains, And through this epic we lived to see The greatest chapter in history. This new birth of freedom is our blood and tearsg We have fought and labored for so many yearsg The Lion of Judah has broken from his cageg Sing praises to God, We are no longer Slaves!
