CLASS HISTORY As we depart from the portals of St Augustrne s College we the Class of 1952 proud ly look back on a brrght day of Indran Summer rn mneteen hundred and forty erght On thus date a roup of one hundred and frfty frxe youn men and women bewrlderln ly entered the walls of thrs rnstrtutron to further thexr educatron phvsreally morally and mentally We were a lrttle afrard but possessed a stron determmatlon At the end of the frrst semester vue had begun to vsrrte a chapter rn the hrstory of the Class of 1957 when on pubhcatron of the Dean s lrst such names as Susre Davrs Vrola DeLarne Charlre San ders Carol Slaughter and Rrchard Gambrell appeared there Class offrcers for thus year were Presrdent Bobby Clark Secretary Eula Gadson and Treasurer Wrlhe ones Our second semester brought great encouraf ement because we had now been accepted as members of the brg famrly and were on our may to aecomphshments of great thrngs We parted that year mth a trnve of regret but mth hrgh hopes of returnrng the next ear The second year vve came back fewer rn number but wrth a stronger determrnatron to do well We eleeted as our offreers Bobby Clark as Presrdent Madelrne Grrssom Sec retary and Trersurer Vrola DeLa1ne We sent to the Student Councrl Carl Tavares Elrzabeth Tomllnson and Melvrn Mrller As outstandrnv athletes we had rn our midst Van Henderson Bobby Clark esse Clements ames Ex ans Hudson Reed Claud Burch oseph Clayton and others Such members of our class as Charlre Sanders Elrzabeth Tomlrnson Helen Chaus Susre Dans ane ackson Dorotha ackson and Vrola De Lame were recrprents of scholarshrps and avsards Durrng our trme stent here we haxe had such actors and actresses as W uamta Mtchell Glenda Hall Exa Green joseph Swarn Anthony Ellrs Sarah Traeye and Carol Slaughter These haxe starred rn major productrons grxen by the Dramatrc Club In the summer of 1951 our shrp sank few were saxed and we returned to Sarnt Auvustrne s fewer rn number but stronger rn mrnd and W-rll We lost many outstandrnv members but our srster junlor college replaced them wrth such students as John Bellamy Oln er Burnett and Madelle Wade who was the orrgrnator of our present Charm Club among Freshmen young ladres This successful year vsas prompted by our offrcers Melvrn Muller Presrdent Elrza beth Tomhnson Secretary and Dorothy Carnage Treasurer We elected Dorotha jack son joseph Swarn and Kathryn Barge as representatrx es to the Student Councrl Durrng thrs our junror year we contrrbuted such persons as Charhe Sanders hlrzabeth Tomlrn son Anthony Elhs and Susre Davrs to Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Socrety At last we entered our frnal year of struggles Although we started out wrth one hun dred and frfty frve we have dwrndled down to only forty erght and we strll possess some force At the helm thrs year was Anthony Ellrs Presrdent Vrola C DeLarne Secretary Ex ans Booker Treasurer We sent to the Student Councrl Olrx ette Merrrck Annre Mc Laurrn and Olrver Burnett Selected from thrs class to appear among Who s Who Among Students rn Amerrcan Unrversrtres and Colleves were Anme Wrlkrns Dorothy Strachan Elrzabeth Tomlrnson Mary jones Evelyn Gregg Vrola DeLa1ne Ohvette Merrrck Melvrn Mrller and An thony Elhs We are proud of you classmates Congratulatrons to Charlie Sanders and Susre for recervmg thrs honor last year So through trrals we have travelled to the end of our four years St Augustrne s We thank you for havrng prepared us to take our respectrve stand rn hfe You shall forever l1ve rn our memory Alma Mater we brd thee adreu CLASS OF 1952 Annre L McLaur1n 1 .-.W , . 7 - ' ..' . 1 . . , , a ' , , ' . 1 T .
