L E C H EVA L CLASS HISTORY Iili history of the class of nineteen hundred and thirty-four ot' Saint Augustine's College. City of Raleigh. County of XVake. State of North Carolina is this wise: Y ln the month of Septemher in the year of nineteen lmndred and thirty there entered upon these grounds ahout eighty young men and young women who said that they came in search of knowledge. They hailed from the various parts of the world- efrom the Sunny Southland. from the mountainous regions ot' New England, the rolling hillows of the Atlantic. and the sweltering sun of the XYest Indies. Not all of these seekers of knowledge were in new surroundings for several of them were escapees of the School of Dean Lynch. Therefore organization of these young freslnnen was not a great task. They organized themselves so that they might gain strength and had as their leader liarl Alston. Full of zeal and courage they at once hecame active in student activities--showing their capabilities as politicians and nohle leaders. The young men organized the Acies t'lnh so as to instill into the minds of other students. The Power of Vision. Toward the end of the year the class of nineteen lmndred and thirty-four planned for the orientation of the incoming Freslnnen. Alas--at the beginning of their second year a few had dropped out and lagged hehind. They found themselves under their same leader who hrought them through the warfares of that mighty freshman year. As a decreasing host. they found themselves strong and a solid unit. To this day they will rememher the Freshman-Sophomore Foothall Classic. in which their solid unity was unending. As these seekers of knowledge entered the third year of their warfare they found them- selves decreasing hut gaining more strength and courage. To this happy hand were added two studious young ladies. Doris Telfair and Alice Perry. This year hrought the change of leadership to I.loyd Davis. who is now full of zeal and struggling to the end. During this year we Hnd the class has played an important role in the carnpus life. Most of the organizations had memhers of this zealous class as their leaders. YVe tind them in the following activities -Sf. .layu.vli::e's l'rn, Ferguson Cluh. Dramatic t'luh, Choral Cluh, Varsity Basketball and Foothall and College Student Organization. Toward the end of the year these seekers of knowledge decided to entertain the graduating class, This was given in the form of a Garden Party. which delighted the hearts of the graduating class. As time drifted slowly onward we tind these seekers of knowledge landing their anchor in the fourth year of their college warfare. This host full of courage had decreased to the numher of thirty-three and we tind them still waging their warfare. The young women of this class organized themselves into the Delta Sigma Nu Society and had as their aims Dignity. Soeiahility. and Neatness. They regret to leave hut wish that the society might linger on. The tirst annual of the college was forwarded hy this class of seekers of knowledge. This Animal was a way of expressing their love and devotion of St. Augustim-'s. and that they never wanted to he forgotten, Now we tind that out of that host of eighty that thirty-three of the .luniors remain and are now hoping to depart. And in looking over the courses taken we tind seven in the Science Department and twenty-six in the Arts Department. And now for four years the class of nineteen hundred and thirty-four has roamed these grounds and sought to get the knowledge for which it came in search. Now it must depart into the various parts of the world to show. ln Veritate Victoria. t'1..vn,v ll, Jscksox, llisforirm. Tzczflre
