I will bless any place where my heart is honored. With this promise uppermost in our minds, we, the Seniors of Saint Augustine High School, humbly dedicate this, our most treasured possession, to the Sacred Heart of jesus. And, as promised, we hope to receive in full all the blessings needed for our salvation and preparation for our role in life. The Sacred Heart has been an inspiration and guide for all of us during our school years. When we were troubled and our minds were filled with doubts 'and fears, we looked to heaven for comfort and guidance. There, streaming from the Sacred Heart of jesus were the luminous rays of perfect love, which like the miracle of sight, enlightened our minds. Our devotion to the Sacred Heart of jesus can be seen in the faithful reception of Holy Communion on the First Friday of each month and in the reverence displayed as we began each day with the ejaculation: Sacred Heart of jesus, I place my trust in Thee. As our high school days draw to an end, we are depending on the Sacred Heart to help 6 us to become better Christians and citizens as we venture onto lifes highway. Farewell I0 Graelaaier My dear Graduates: The time has come to say Farewell. This is not easy. either for you or for your teachers. For the past four years you have spent the happiest days of your life sheltered by the benign influence of St. Augustine High School. They have been important days when you were taught and trained at the able hands of the Sisters of St. Francis and the Capu- chin Fathers. Not only did these teachers endeavor to impart to you knowledge and instruction in the many branches taught in high school, but under the special guidance of Almighty God they made every effort to train your character and mould your soul for your eternal salvation. Saying Farewell ! is also difficult for your teachers. For many weeks and months they have watched your develop- ment. They have come to learn both your strong and your weak points. And like a good friend, who likes you regard- less of your virtues or weaknesses, they look upon you much like a father or mother on their children. You have become dear to your teachers and they are loathed to see you leave. But there is this consolation. The parting is made easy if your teachers see in you the determination to carry out the lessons they have taught you. If they know that their sacri- fices will be rewarded by a grateful effort on your part to love God with your whole heart and thereby save your immortal soul, then Farewell, instead of being 1 sad one, will be one of great joy and happiness. Reverend Eric Litzenberg, O. F. M. Cap. Reverend Jerome Martin, O. F. M. Cap Prmcnmlir M6f5dg6 Dear Graduate, My parting message, as usual, is always about the same. The ideal in your entire life is an acquired consciousness in school of trying at all times to do THE WILL OF GOD. Life for you and me is nothing more. And it is not a matter of inditferenceg it must be made a matter of habit, a habit firmly rooted through an under- standing of what is important and necessary to salvation and what is not. Life, to be worthwhile, satisfying, and happy must be lived and viewed only through one lens, His lens, in order that the magnification be correct, the aim, clear, and the object in focus. We can fool ourselves with a nearsighted or farsighted view with- out the mirror, but the image is distorted. This is the philosophy that you have been taught in school, and it is this attitude of doing His Will that inevitably results in giving Him the greatest amount of Honor and Glory. In addition, reverence is a beautiful virtue that we imbibe as a part of our religious training. Carry this virtue into your home, into your way of dressing, into your choice of recreation, into every habit you acquire. Vulgarity, immodesty, intemperance and a host of vices will never find an entrance into the heart of a reverent girl. Your religious duties: Holy Mass, frequent Communion, daily morning and evening prayers will be habits you can never forego. The Sacred Heart and Our Lady will protect and guard you and your life in the end will not have been in vain. This is my daily prayer for you and yours. Sister Mary Margaret, 0.S.F. The Student Council, the governing body in the school, is the link between faculty and students. Or- ganized to keep school regulations uppermost in the minds of the girls, the Student Council also has the responsibility of making school life orderly, happy, and worthy. Some of the objectives of the S. C. are to promote good citizenship and leadership, to stimu- late scholarship, to improve the conduct of the stu- dents, to provide for student expression, to promote good sportsmanship, and to be an example and guide for the student body. Every member must be alert, co-operative, and willing to fulfill these objectives. By competently fulfilling its responsibilities and objectives the Student Council not only guides the students in obeying the school laws but also produces the leaders so necessary in life.
