Williams, Bishop Ackerman blesses new building in dedication ceremonies, On Monday, September 22, a ceremony was held to dedicate our new building. An addition of 3600 square feet provided for increased office space, enlarged library facilities, a lounge for lay faculty, and a student activity room. Prior to offering a Mass, Coram Pontifice, The Most Rev. Richard Ackerman, C.S.Sp. Auxiliary Bishop of San Diego, officiated in the blessing of the new structure. He was assisted by Very Rev. Thomas B. Austin, commissary provincial New Building provides new office space. Fr. Austin along with Fr. Aherne, greet Admiral Hartman at civil dedication ceremonies. of Augustinians in California. The afternoon ceremony, a civic dedication, was presided over by Rear Admiral C, C. Hartman, U.S.N., com- mandant of the Eleventh Naval District, who cut the ribbon opening the new building to inspec- tion by city and school officials. In his speech Fr. John Aherne outlined the school growth from its original enrollment of 22 to the present 800. Following the ceremony was a reception in the school patio. 'Q l4'D1X1'v,,Z' '5- .nv -M Saints had its beginning in 1923 with the erection of Austin Hall which served as school headquarters and priests' rectory and of Vasey Hall, a group of four classrooms and an office named after Fr. Nicholas Vasey, O.S.A. Then in 1947 Sullivan Hall named after Fr. Mortimer Sullivan, C.S.A., was added increasing classroom space with four more rooms. 1951 saw the completion of our most ambitious undertakings, Sheehan Hall and Dougherty Gym. ln memory of Fr. John Sheehan, O.S.A., and Fr. Joseph Dougherty, O.S.A., respectively, classrooms now numbered twenty providing space for 700 students with the gym able to accommodate 1000. Erected as a memorial to Fr. Blasius J. Zeiser.
