Barbara Crxtes Juanita Olson Fern Simon A NURSE A nurse must he patient as patient can he, If she intends to he a model of virtue,-you see? And all of her troubles and trials and care, As a penance from God she must gladly hear. She must he kind to all-not excluding the poor, And their little hardships willingly help to endure, And when they are lonesome and friends they have She must he gentle as kindness and as loving too. From morning till noon,-from noon till night, She must tend to their ills and answer their light, Regardless how cross or impatient they may he, Our Lord said, whatever you do unto these you do Then when she's through with the work of the day, So tired that hardly a word she can say, Off duty she goes-hut happy and content, For she knows the day was so well spent. And humhly to the chapel her footsteps turn, Where jesus in the Tabernacle for her presence do Oh! how serene and peaceful 'tis here, How consoling the thought to have him so near. My heart and my soul and my spirit are Thine, Take them sweet jesus my Love divine. Her contrition she makes, all her prayer are said, Trusting in God she retires to hed- Seems though she had taken hut just a wee nap, When at her door she hears a faint little tap, Tis an emergency call that a sick man was hrought And she is the nurse to go on special for him. Her heart just aches, hut all the while, She tries to hide it with a professional smile, And whispering a prayer to the Sacred Heart, Asks His grace hefore to her patient she parts.
