FRANK RINANDO RALPH FOURNIER NICKY PARIGI WALTER VUIGTMAN Bulldogs 38 - French 13 The S. A. Bulldogs hung up their straight win of the young season by crushing the F.H.S. Buffs by a score of 38-13, After a slow start, the Bulldogs started the rampage by unleashing a tremendous attack both on the ground and through the air, scoring at will, Their attack was spearheaded by Ronnie Fontenot and John LaBarbera. The Bulldogs displayed sharp blocking and a hard charging line to turn hack the Buffs. The first half was highlighted by LaBarbera's 541--yard gallop for a touchdown. Ronnie Fontenot scored another and the Bulldogs led 13-0 at the half. After LaBarbera and Fontenot scored two times each in the third quarter, Coach Frankovic emptied his bench, playing reserves the rest of the way. Saints 0 - Bulldogs 60 The S. A. Bulldogs, riding high over a three-game winning streak, finally met their superior on the dreary Friday night of September 25. The Bulldogs of Nederland, perhaps the greatest team Nederland has ever had - and will have - mercilessly slaughtered the Bulldogs of S. A. by an overwhelming 60-0 score. However, the Saints did not just lie down and play dead, but fought hard to the last. John Lovoi, making numerous tackles, stood out as the best performer of the night for the Bulldogs. Frank Rinando gains speed to dodge his opponents. Saints 12 - Gents 13 A heavily favored Crowley eleven came from behind to hand the Bulldogs a heartbreaking 13-12 defeat at Purple Stadium. Both St. Anthony touchdowns were made on Fontenot to LaBarbera passes. Crowley touchdowns were made on plunges by Cart and Gaspard. The Bulldogs scored first and held the lead until the fourth quarter, running out of downs until only seconds remained in the game. Standouts for the game were Fontenot and LaBarbera in the backfield and Parigi and Lovoi on the line. ? 1 i . , ' ' . An underdog Cleveland team stunned the Bulldogs to hand them their third successive defeat. The score was 32-6. St Anthony's lone touchdown was made in the fourth quarter on a 55 yard march which included a 30-yard Fournier to Rinando pass Fournier later sneaked over from the two-yard line. The Bulldogs' weak pass defense and the weak middle of their line were cited as reasons for the upset, while a surprising and hard fighting Indian team was determined not to be stopped. ' Bulldog stalwarts for the game were Rinando, McGinnis, Fournier, Lovoi, Salas and Daugherty. The Bulldogs went to their. fourth straight defeat before a spirited bunch of Kirwin Bucs who defeated them by a 27-12 count which helped upset a good homecoming. The Saints were punchless of- fensively mainly because of the loss of Ronnie Fontenot. The Bucs scored first to take a 7-0 lead. But the Bulldogs came back, featuring Jack McGinnis' four-yard run. This made it 7-6 in favor of Kirwin. The Bucs scored again in the second quarter and led by 14-6 at half- The Bucs scored another touchdown in the third quarter to make it 21-6 Shortly after the Bucs intercepted a pass and scored a little 4' while later to make it 27-6. Bulldogs came from behind to battle their way to a 20-18 victory over the Bishop Byrne Shamrocks at Shamrock Stadium. The Saints also snapped a four-year jinx held over them by Byrne. Ronnie Fontenot scored the first touchdown of the game when he slammed over from the Byrne 4. This score was set up by Kroutter who blocked a Byrne punt on the opponent's 9. Moments later Chaisson hit Sassine with a pass on the S. A. 40, and Sassine went the rest of the way untouched. This made it 7-6 in favor of the Bull dogs. However, with less than a minute left in the first half, Sassine scored from 9 yards out and the Shamrocks led at the half, 12-7. The Bulldogs drew first blood in the third quarter with Fontenot slamming over the goal from one yard out. The Shamrocks drove to the S.A. 7, then the Bulldogs took over on downs. The outstanding play of the game was highlighted by Fontenot's ,brilliant 93-yard touchdown run. This brought the score to 20-12. Fol lowing the ensuing kickoff, Byrne scored on the first play of scrimmage. Pete Chaisson passed to Castille for a touchdown, this play cornered 64 yards, and made the score 20-18' in favor of the Bulldogs. Shortly after, the game ended with S.A. upsetting a team predicted to win by at least two touchdowns. -:ef - f . is -- - .- W Pia' VINCENT FER'l'l'l'I'A I-IUBERT OXFORD NICK DRAGNA ' JERRY AUCOIN Odds are against Ronnie as he tries to cross goal -
