ST. ANTHONY ' S VS. FRENCH by Hadley Melo An underdog St. Anthony Bulldog team played inspired ball and almost pulled the upset of the year as they were edged out by a powerful French team 27-20. Even in defeat the Bull- dogs showed fight that they have sorely missed in previous seasons. Here is a summary: The game started with St. Anthony kicking off to French. On the second play. Buff ' s Star, Don Sanford rambled 79 yards for a touchdown. This lead was shortlived and the Saints scored after recovering a fumbled punt on the French 13. John Lisotta scored on a 13-yard run off tackle. He then ran over for the extra point. Lisotta passed 35 yards to Leonard Tremont for an- other score as the quarter ended. They threatened to turn the game into a riot. The Saints scored again with Li- sotta going over from the one yard. Following the intermission French marched down to the Saints ' one, where the Bulldogs held them. But then fate took a hand and Jack Tucker recovered Fiorenza ' s fumble and zoomed for a touchdown. Minutes later Landry passed to Surles for another Buff score. French made the clincher when Jenkins smashed from the one with 45 seconds remaining. The outstanding stars for the Saints were: Line — Tremont, Tanner, Trahan, Fontenot. Back — Lisotta, Walker. Altogether the whole line played well. W ' St. Anthony Defeats St. Edwards of Austin The Bulldogs ended the 1951 season with a decisive 33-19 win over their up-state rivals from Austin. In the first quarter the favorite Bull- dogs, with a team comprised of sub- stitutes and Seniors who hadn ' t seen much action, were trailing 0-13. Joe Molina scored once and passed 50 yards to Pancho Rayes for the other tally. The second period was a rude re- verse of the first as the Bulldog first team entered the game and exploded for 26 points. Lisotta scored three times and Wenner added a fourth. St. Edwards took the second half kickoff and drove 50 yards for a score l)ut the Bulldogs came back with a s( ore of their own with Lisotta going over for the fourth time. Gonzales kicked his third extra point to make it 5 5-19, and end the scoring. John Lisotta was the standout for till- Bulldogs with his bull-like charges III got valuable assistance from backs Andrew Wenner, Paul Prejean, and linemen Tanner, Fontenot and Lovoi.

The Bulldogs got W % off to a fast start after recovering a Byrne fumble. A Fiorenza-Giardina pass carried down to the Shamrock ' s 9, but then they were held. The Saints continued outplaying Byrne until the last minute of the second quarter when Ledet took a handoff and ran 67 yards for a score. The try for the extra point was no good. After the intermission the Bulldogs threw caution to the winds and passed on nearly every play, 21 in all but they couldn ' t match the to Ledet. Herret connected.
