IEI IEII IEII IEII IEII IEI IEI IEII IEII IEI Why Should You Send Your Boy or Girl to Night School? Because a high school education opens to the mind the whole field of human thought and endeavor. The time has come when every child should receive not merely an elementary education, but a high school course, followed, if possible, by a college training. Our Catholic children need this in order that they may take a prominent place in the activities of the world as leaders. We have been asked, and doubtlessly you have been asked: Why don't Catholic.s lead? Why don't Catholics exert greater influence in high places, and make a better showing? Of the total college attendance in the United States, Catholics form only 15 per cent, while the Catholic population number 20 per cent of the total population. In a great state of the Union where the educational facilities are excellent, only 8 in every thousand of the Catholic school population reach fourth year high school, and only 12 in every ten thousand of the Catholic school population graduate from col- lege. These figures give a sufficient answer. They say that the standard of educa- tion among us is not high enough, that we do not appreciate the advantages offered, and t'hat we are not alive to the need of a higher education. The greatest need of the Church is well instructed laymen, and she looks to the high school of today to meet this need with great courage and enthusiasm. Also from an economic standpoint is the high school a necessity, as the high school student has a decided advantage over those who leave school after completing only an elementary course. The necessity of a more thorough, rounded-out education before specializing is becoming more fully understood. Not only educators of note, but likewise leading men in the industrial world, are incessant in their plea for more high school education. It is an indisputable fact that specializing in any particular subject Without a thorough background of high school training leaves the individual ignorant and uncultured. Only in rare and isolated cases should parents, who under- stand the above statement of conditions, permit their children 'to forego the most valuable asset they can give them-the asset which they can not squander. Parents, YOU who have the true welfare of your children at heart, who recognize t'he fact that their permanent success in life lies in a broader training and more sys- tematic general education, make The Saint Anthony High School a standard insti- tution of learning. Make it a complete four-year classical course high school. You can do so by co-operating with your pastors and teachers. Be loyal to the high schoolg develop and increase its usefulness, that those who come under its influence may reap the full benefits of a high school education. In the face of pernicious activity on the part of the enemies of Christian educa- tion, dare we remain indifferent? Commercial Department This department embraces all of the subjects essential to a business career, and offers a thorough course in stenography, typewriting and the principles of bookkeep- ing, in addition to a thorough drill in the routine of oflice work, in-cluding correspond- ence, handling of mail, use of filing systems and of the various office appliances, viz.: multigraph, mimeograph, adding machine, etc. We offer two courses in our commercial department. The regular two-year commercial course requires that the student have com- pleted at least one year of high school work. A special one-year commercial course is offered to students who for good reasons cannot take the regular course. Owing to the fact that there is always a demand for competent office help, no effort is spared on the part of the management to give our students' every aid in ac- quiring commercial training. The work of this department has now passed the experimental stage and has won the confidence of the business men of the city, and the efficiency developed has brought noteworthy success to a number of its graduates, now occupying positions of responsibility in the various business offilces of this city.
