E Jackson Jones, a young spendthrltt, better known lll his home town - as Broadway, suddenly finds himself so deeply in debt that he is getting desperate. In fact, it reaches ga point where one night at a, banquet he becomes so desperate that he induces a rich widow, Mrs. E Gerard, who is old enough to be his mother, to propose to him. His friend, Bob VVallace, upon hearing of the engagement. becomes very angry and tries to put a stop to this ridiculous match, and he 5 is somewhat successful. In the meanwhile l3roadway's uncle dies ' and leaves him his entire fortune, consisting of some real estate and a chewing gum plant in Jonesville, Connecticut, his home town. - All arrangements are made by Broadway to sell the plant to the Q Chewing Gum Trust for 5Fl,200.000, when VVallace interferes and frustrates the sale. They go to the home of Judge Spotswood in Jonesville. where E Broadway meets Margie Richards, the chief accountant of the .Iones Chewing Gum Company. She tries to convince him that he is doing the wrong thing by selling the plant and asks him to re- - consider the matter. He promises to be at the office the following Q morning to talk things over. At the ofhce of the Jones Gum Plant the next morning Broadway turns down Pembrokf-'s offer and the latter departs for New York 5 very much disappointed at failing to bring about the purchase of ' the much coveted plant. VVhen everything is going along smoothly, Mrs. Gerard appears on the scene, but soon leaves when told Broad- - way has departed for New York. Rankin, the butler. is sent to see Q that she does not miss her train. Broadway has opened his uncle's home and is having the time of his life when Grover Vlfallace pays a visit to see why his son has E entered into such a seemingly criminal advertising contract with the - Jones Chewing Gum Co. Bob manages to straighten matters out, however, and before leaving Grover YVallace offers to buy a half - interest in the business for his son. This. of course, helps the Q young spendthrift to get out of debt. Then Rankin returns with the news that he has brought Mrs. Gerard back with him. This sets things going again until Rankin announces his engagement to 5 the rich widow. This, of course. is surprising news and at the '- same time a relief to Broadway, who in the end is successful in winning the hand of Margie Richards.
