..IE! IE! IE1! IE!! IE! IE!! IE! IE!! IE! IE! E E ST. ANTHONY CI-IORISTERS The St. Anthony Choristers were organized in 1910 by the much remembered Prof. Al Rhode. On June 18, 1911, the Choristers first appeared as a vested choir at the Corpus Christi celebration. At that time the Choir consisted of 48 boys and 25 men. Since then, the Choristers have gained a reputation in their favor that has even reached the shores of Germany, England and Italy. It was due to Mr. Rhode's en- thusiasm and zeal that gained for the Choristers such world wide renown and fame, and merited for himself and his Choir the Apostolic Blessing of Pope Pius X during the summer of 1912. On May 16, 1914, the Choristers departed for Quincy, Ill., to sing a three day concert, with such success, that in October, 1921, the Choristers were invited to sing for the First National Convention of the Third Order of St. Francis. Since its inception the St. Anthony Choristers have given a number of concerts and have made several sing- ing trips in the past. The Choir is especially praiseworthy for its discipline, thanks to the energies of its past and present Director. On Christmas morning, 1922, while arranging the music for the First Solemn High- mass, Mr Rhode was suddenly taken from his Choristers by death. In February, 1923, the new Director, Prof. C. Hausner, took charge of the Choir and continued ably the work where the late Director left off. At that time it was rumored in certain circles that with the death of Mr. Rhode the St. Anthony Choristers would be disbanded, but thanks to the untiring elforts of the new Director, the Choristers have lost nothing of the reputation gained under Prof. Rhode's leadership. Thus, even at this day, the St. Anthony Choristers are considered, by men of reputation, to be the leading Church Choir in the City of St. Louis and one of the foremost Church Choirs in the country.
