Under the watchful guidance of St. Anthony, we have tried to obtain he spirit of wisdom and under-itanding in the school which bears lis name. We trust that this same pirit will help us to find our place in Heaven to sing with him praise in the name of the Most High. In the midst of the Church the Lord opened his mouth; and filled him with the spirit of wisdom and understanding. He clothed him with a robe of glory. Ps. 91,2. It is good to give praise to the Lord and to sing to thy name. O Most High. Introit Mass of St. Anthony. —l— MHC Your high school has the distinction of being historically the first in the city of Minneapolis for it was from the early St. Anthony mission that St. Anthony parish, school, and settlement developed. Your blue oxfords tread over the land where the soft-soled moccasins of the Indians and the sturdy boots of pioneer Catholics beat a path to the mission on the cast bank of the Mississippi The mission was called St. Anthony because Father Hennepin, in w60r, paddling up the Mississippi, came upon the falls, and struck by the beauty of the sparkling waters, blessed them and named them in honor of St. Anthony, his brother Franciscan, who had granted him many favors. The name St. Anthony was adopted by all the surrounding territory, and the Catholic congregation, which was formed before the existence of any village settlement was known as St. Anthony. One episode in the life of St. Anthony, the recovery of a stolen book, has made him popular with those who seek to recover lost articles. Throughout his life, however, St. Anthony was concerned with the search for wisdom and merited to be ranked among the Doctors of the Church. He shared his wisdom by winning souls back from heresy and by bringing the unbaptized to Christ. May he help you to find true wisdom and inspire you to share your gift of faith with the misinformed and those who know not Christ in the city of Minneapolis, which was dedicated to him by his devoted client, Father Hennepin. Religion SCHOOL SONG Where everybody wears a smile Where everyone is gay, Where there is progress all the while, We learn new things each day. Where hearts are bound in friendship true To last throughout the years, Where joys are many, cares are few, All troubles disappear. Hail to thee, St. Anthony! We pledge our loyalty. Though days be long We'll sing this song, St. Anthony, to thee. Hail, to thee, our hearts are free Give homage to thy name. We’ll sing the praise of happy days And journey on to fame. OUR SHIELD We proudly sing our school song at every assembly and hush the cheering crowd at basketball games when we respectfully stand to sing, Hail to thee, St. Anthony . Our shield inspires loyalty to our Catholic heritage by depicting the falls named St. Anthony by Catholic pioneers. It also tells us of the origin and struggle even to martyrdom of the Sisters of St. Joseph. The wording on the shield expresses the goal of Catholic education, knowledge and virtue. The school colors, blue and white, the colors of Our Lady, are passed on by the president of each graduating class to her successor. The blue symbolizes loyalty, the white, purity. We have three symbols, our song, our shield, and our colors to inspire us to strive not only during our school days but all through life, for loyalty and sinlessness.
