Text from Pages 1 - 72 of the 1955 volume:

1 I Si Joseph, pairon, proiector, guardian., and faiher, use, 'the class of ’5S, dedicaie our Jaduan io jou. As members of the Universal Church, we rejoice in your patronage. As students of the Sisters who bear your name, we claim your special protection. We axe grateful for your protection, but most of all, we love to acknowledge your fatherhood. By attending St. Anthony’s, we have had the opportunity to deepen our knowledge of the doctrine of the Mystical Body. We have begun to realize that Christ lives in each of us, that He uses our minds, wills, hands, and all our God-given powers for His work in our time and country. Holy Scripture tells us that under your guidance, St. Joseph, the historical Christ grew in wisdom, age, and grace. You foster this same growth in us, the Mystical Christ. We offer our PADUAN to you as a record of that growth through the hours of recreation, study, and prayer at St. Anthony’s. The PADUAN of '55 has captured the fleeting activities of school days at St. Anthony's and has bound them securely within its covers. The camera's eye and alert observers have caught some of the intangible things that make school days life” — the hesitancy of shy newcomers, the assurance of experienced sophomores, the exuberance of juniors displaying class rings, the anticipation of seniors awaiting expectantly and somewhat regretfully the day of gradu rion. Amid the memories of events are interwoven the light and shadows of joy and anxiety, prayer and playfulness. The Yearbook staff has dedicated the PADUAN of ’55 to St. Joseph, honoring him by the sectional pages recalling his virtues of obedience, justice, prudence, and fidelity. May he, our glorious father, to whom you have dedicated this book, guard that section of your life as yet unknown and unlived and may he be with you at that moment when earthly shadows pass forever and the full light of eternity shines upon you. —2 Our Lady of Perpetual Help Shrine —3— Convent MR'' {, s S' THE REVEREND DONALD SALT Assistant Priest and Religion Teacher Jacu Sister Mary Bertrand ........................... Physical Education SCHOOL SONG Where everybody wears a smile Where everyone is gay, Where there is progress ail the while, We learn new things each day. Where hearts are bound in friendship true To last throughout the years, Where joys are many, cares arc few, All troubles disappear. Hail to thee, St. Anthony! We pledge our loyalty. Though days be long We’ll sing this song, St. Anthony, to thee. Hail, to thee, our hearts are free Give homage to thy name. We'll sing the praise of happy days And journey on to fame. OUR SHIELD We proudly sing our school song at every assembly and hush the cheering crowd at basketball games when we respectfully stand to sing Hail to Thee St. Anthony.” Our shield inspires loyalty to our Catholic heritage by depicting the falls named Sr. Anthony by Catholic pioneers. It also tells us of the origin and struggle even to martyrdom of the Sisters of St. Joseph. The wording on the shield expresses the goal of Catholic education, knowledge and virtue. The school colors, blue and white, the colors of Our Lady, are passed on by the president of each graduating class to her successor. The blue symbolizes loyalty, the white, purity. We have three symbols our song, our shield, and our colors to inspire us to strive, not only during our school days but all through life, for loyalty and sinlessness. 1 Joseph, rising up from had commanded him.'
