C'est en cette Cmnee l945 que le jeu de balle au camp fait son debut. Tous les eleves montrent leur bon esprit par l'assistance aux parties spor- tives. Une troisierne tois l'ecole nous ac- cueillep c'est nous les IUNIORS, oui, c'est nous les SOUS-GRADUES, fiers de notre titre. Tout de meme, nous com- mengcns cette annee avec un peu de crainte parce que les suiets sont nouveaux et par consequent exigent de notre part plus de travail et d'attention. Le 13 du mois d'octobre, l'ecole Saint-Antoine cele- bre ses NOCES D'OR. Heureux anniver- saire, jour beni pour la paroisse que celui ou les soeurs de Sainte-Croix Viennent prendre charge de l'enseignement dans nctre ecole. As no financial support was offered Charles, he was forced to turn to his friends for money contributions- and his friends were the Class of '48 of S.A.H. The first name he looked up was that of Normand Bedard. He found him begging on the White House steps. After all, Normand was tired of entering beauty contests and losing: he had re- tired. Here, numerous crutches on display testify to the miraculous character of the shrine. Unable to linger in church any longer, the group proceded to St. Alphonsus Hall. Usherettes costumed in black and white ballerina dresses graciously led us to our places in the fifth, sixth and seventh rows. Within a few moments, the purple velvet curtain was raised and at last we were witnessing New England's famous Passion Play. The miracles apparently performed before our very eyes left us glued to the chairs. Claudia, Pilate's daughter, has in her possession a miraculous rose which touched the robe of Our Lord on his march to Calvary. At different intervals, a dead child is resurrected, l..eah's arm crippled, a spring of water made to flow from the rocky walls of a prison, a luminous cross appears in this same wall, a statue of Iupiter crumbles, and Leah's sanity is brought back, all because of the mysterious powers of Claudia's mystic rose. The scene that left the most vivid and most enduring impression on the group came at the end of the first act. With perfect timing, the lights went out, the music was intensified thunder crashed, lightning flashed across the stage and the Crucifixion scene appeared. Christ's figure was the personification of agony and resignation Slowly, the light got dimmer and dimmer until all that remained visible was His Divine Facel This created in our souls a spirit of reverence and brought about a most ardent love of our Saviour. Awed by such happenings, we did not notice the time flying. Five o'clock and the final drop of the curtain warned us that time to leave had come. They are unquestionably a part of the contests, they supplement the physical action of the players with colcr and atmosphereg they stir the crowd to a hysterical point if the game is close, or often steal the show if the game is one-sided. They sponsor competition between schools and inspire pride in cur own colors. Naturally, the task of our seven lovelies is to cheer the players who give their all to bring home the victories. As a result, we have the most cheerful team in this vicinity. The score, no matter how far it has gone against us, never influences the girls' unshakable belief that S.A.l-l. can win. This confi- dence turns into sympathy, but never resentment, if we lose. With this moral support backing them up, our players always have an added incentive to win. Yes, our cheerleaders have performed their task, and very well indeed! The equipment with which they have accomplished this Herculean task of developing into top-flight cheerleaders within a mere two years is mainly talent, ability, willingness and endless hours of practice. A repertoire cf cheers which can match any seen or unforeseen event is at their disposal, but to stay at the top of the heap they are forever adding novel songs, cheers and move- ments. lt is evident that their work has paid off, for they are reaping the laurels of success.
