To you. Who have left our midst boys , but Who Will return 'fmen g men, Who realizing their duty answered its call unquestioninglyg men Who willingly left all- persons, places, things dearest to themg Who Were ready even to make the supreme sacrifice of life itself Cif that be demanded? so that We novv, and those Who come after us, might enjoy the priceless peace and the inalienable free- dom so rightfully oursg to you We are eternally grateful. May the King of the World restore peace to men of good Will . and may the Divine Protector Watch over you and hasten the day of victory for your speedy return home. Four To The Graduates .As We bark back to the brave days of old, We see in a vision a brave little mother blessing her crusader son and sending hirn out to follow the standard God Wills It. Today, the school that has taught and trained you With a n1other's love, the school you call Benign Mother-Alma Mater-blesses you in the selfsanie Way and bids you follow the selfsanie banner, God's Will. Her gentle, constant inHuence has been exercised to form in you a steadfast, uniiinching adherence to God's vvill. She sends you forth trusting you Will be true to the lesson. Your life work lies mapped out before you in deep, clear lines: it is, God's will. Whether God's will leads across the dizzy heights of spectacular achievement or winds down through the safe and sheltered Valley of poverty and pain, it is for you-the Highway of the King. Follow it through life-follow it bravely-follow it steadfastly-and you will be kings and queens. Your way will be a march of Victory and, when death's shadows are falling, it will pass beneath the triumphal arch that bears, deep graven in its keystone, the unerring formula of success, God's Will. Rev. Henry Post, C.PP.S. IU Reverend Frederick W. Schaeper, C.PP.S.. Prompted by profound admiration and gratitude, We, the Class of 1944, render our tribute of thanks, of love, and of affection to our former pastor, Rev. Frederick William Schaeper, C.PP.S. Your timely advice Will ever be reinembered. Your burning zeal and above all, your genuine piety, will serve as an inspiration and incentive to lead a life in conformity to Catholic principles. Your kindly Ways and cheerful smile will help us to smooth life's rugged Way. For all you have done for us, We say f'God Reward You. Instructors of Religion Reverend Albert Frericks, GPRS. Reverend Joseph Lapinski, C.PP.S. Reverend James Jost, C.PP.S. Reverend Carl Gates, C.PP.S. Reverend Roman Anderson, C.Pl'.S. Reverend Alexander Leiker, C.PP.S. Though he only recently entered the portals of St. Anthony, Rev. Albert Frericlcs has already distinguished himself by his work as head of the C.l.L. Rev. Joseph Lapinski, former spiritual athletic director and Freshman instructor, is now convalescing from a long siege of illness. We extend our heartiest wishes for a speedy recovery to Father Joeu and hope he'll soon be with us again. Rev. James Jost, with his inspiring instruction classes, literally fascinates our Sophomores and instills a desire for further knowledge of Christ. Rev. Carl Gates instructs the Juniors, and it is said, on very good authority, that the unanswerable question concerning Church History is yet to be found. Rev. Roman Anderson has his day more than filled since he is Spiritual Director of both the Student Sodality and the Crusade. Seniors and Fifth graders alike eagerly anticipate Father's interesting religious instructions. Father Leiker's musical ability is always Very much in evidence at the Massesg during the week Father is both organist and choir, Seven Eight SISTER MARY HILARIA Principal SISTER MARY ADELICIA Aviation, Cheinistfry, Physics SISTER MARY AGNITA Stfacly Hall Snyaeryisor SISTER MARY ALIX Szfenography, Typeioriting SISTER MARY ALICIA English, Art Appreciation SISTER MARY ANTCNICE Algebra, English SISTER MARY FRANCIS BORGIA Shorthand, Bookkeeping, Typewriting SISTER MARY CIRINE Latin SISTER MARY EUCHARITA M atheinatics SISTER MARY FLAVIA General Science Faculty SISTER MARY FLORENCE English SISTER MARY HELEN English, Geometry SISTER MARY HONORA Latin, Slilcly Hall Snperivisov SISTER MARY INNOCENCE English, Latin SISTER MARY ISIDORA Algebra, Econ. The art of a classic language speaks audibly in the study of a truly vivid subject. American History Avidly interested, not only in the story of the past, the Seniors also find present-day American History equally fascinating, and eagerly absorb as much of it as possible. With the distant South Pacific brought so near home by the presence of our boys in that area, there is a two-fold objective in its study- satisfaction of the natural desire for familiarity with the conditions surround- ing loved ones, and, in the second place, the never-ending quest for knowledge. Journalism Newspaper work proves itself an ex- cellent branch of study for broadening the mind and the power of understand- ing. The class consists of several Prelude staff members, who immediately utilize every quip of journalistic code. Biology All things are of one pattern made: bird, beast, and flower. -Emerson. Biology is the open door to the won- ders of nature and nature's God. Its little intricacies and mysteries appear clearly before our otherwise unseeing eyes. Truth revealed in this study trans- forms into real beauty the workings of all animate and inanimate things of creation. A fascinating study, which will play a great part in the post-war era is Biology. Dynamic, alert students of to- day become the doctors, nurses, and physiologists of tomorrow. Geometry Geometric designs wrought with the aid of rulers, compasses, and protractors, decorate the Sophomore Mathematics room, while under bowed heads the stu- dents ponder over diflicult theorems. These are proved by taking apart piece by piece, angles, triangles, squares, poly- gons, and rectangles. By means of earnest application, the students hope that huge textbook will be completely digested when the June days creep along. General Science There is never a dull moment in the General Science Course scheduled for our own Freshmen. This course attempts to make the students realize that science plays an essential part in everyday life, and that comfort, convenience, safety, and pleasure in all the activities of everyday life have been increased by the contribution of science. Experiments and demonstrations form a major and inter- esting part of the course. The students find it a fascinating study, the more you know about it, the more you want to know. Twe Il ty-se ren Aviation Fundamentals of aviation, the science of tomorrow, are daily reviewed in Senior III by an eager class of boys who may easily become America's future pilots. Students are taught the various parts of the airplane, aerodynamics and navigation, which includes some mathe- matics necessary to flying. Trigonometry Courses in Advanced Mathematics have attracted greater numbers of boys this year than ever before, because of the great need for engineers and pilots. The third dimension which plays so im- portant a part in Solid Geometry at first presents difficulties, but the use of home- made objects as seen in this picture is a great help. Chemistry Providing actual chemical experiments and reactions in the laboratory, as well as regular classroom work, the Chemis- try class makes a universal appeal to those interested in this branch of sci- ence. With emphasis on the practical applications of the subject, the students are well on the way to increase their knowledge in this Held. Commercial Accuracy plus speed equals one deli- nite total-efficiency. During the year commercial students entered various con- tests, qualified in the O. A. T., and re- ceived high awards. Outstanding skill in class work will culminate in exception- ally Hne business men and women of tomorrow. Our Coach You played a swell game and that's all I expected of you, said the Champion to his defeated knights, after Catholic Central's spectacular third quarter combat. Brother Henry Kosalko set a record in his first role as Physical Educator at St. Anthony High- he tutored a Teuton eleven to the Parochial City Championship, he established a record which will live on in the annals of St. Anthony High. He really made football history, for he set a city pace which had never before been accomplished in so rare fashion. His secret of success is work, hard Work every minute of the practice sessions. Muscle and character are the Brother's specialties, with emphasis on the latter. Had his team done nothing more, Brother Henry Would have been satisfied in knowing that he had accom- plished his main ambition as instructor and builder of young men. Be nifty and fair in Whatever you play, and God will see you through the rest of the Way. Forty four '43 Grid Season From the depths to the heights in one season is the success story of the St. Anthony Teutons who began a steady, record-breaking march as they smashed through all oppo- sition and finally emerged Parochial City Champions. Theirs was a glorious victory-a record which has never been equalled, for the eleven was not only undefeated and untied, but they also managed to keep their goal-line uncrossed. Determined to win, the team began to roll, trampling their initial opponents, the St. Paul Flyers, in a 21-0 romping. Strengthened by the mighty offensive tackle pillars, the Eleven made a spectacular second half combat, vanquishing St. Benedict's, 13-0. October 10, the De La Salle Pilots fell in quick succession under a surge of heavy passing attacks with the same outcome. The Red-White remained bogged in a mucky field, unable to lash out with their deadly weapons, during the St. Catherine clash. However, a power thrust in the third quarter, swept the Teutons within scoring range. Then a short bullet pass found its target, clinching the tilt, 6-0. St. Ladislaus proved no match for the onrushing stride of the Red-White and they also bowed to the Teuton squad, 19-0. St. Joseph's Commercial challenged the Teutons in a duel for the East Side Cham- pionship, but the Antonian gridders unleashed a blitz attack and overwhelmed the Com- mercials, 27-0. West Side Champs and contenders for the City Parochial laurels, St. Mary's of Redford met the Teutons at the U. of D. Stadium for the First Division playoff contest. That memorable Sunday afternoon, November 14, will never be forgotten, for the S.A.H. players walked off the field in possession of the championship trophy after achieving a 14-0 decision. St. Anthony's Eleven took a decisive stand against Catholic Central's Shamrocks, but to no avail. The Shamrocks carried the day, the score being 19-6, the Teuton gridders took their defeat with a smile in true sportsmanship fashion. Since Catholic Central played an independent schedule, the defeat had no bearing on league standings. The Red-White had realized its dream-they had reached the top of the ladder, and the season of '43 will live on in the annals of St. Anthony High.
