''Summertime, summertime ... Yes, our students do manage to keep busy in the “good ole' summertime The activities started with a bang as the band headed for St. Louis (see following page ) and our industrious Annual Staff finished up the great book of'87. In June many of the teachers attended summer schools, workshops and did curriculum work at the AEA The month of July saw the Register's 16th Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI XVI) ride into town with its ap- proximately 10.00 bikers and accompanying vehicles on one of the hottest days of the year. July 23 St Ansgar was prepared Many of the bikers stopped for a dip in the Cedar River at the Mill Dam and or Halvorson Park on their way to Osage to spend the night On July 28. Bruce Hemann cap- tured first place in Class D at the Iowa State Singles Cham- pionship Trapshoot in Cedar Falls As champion he won a trophy and a cash prize Also in July, several Saints who are also 4-Hers won prizes at the Mitchell County Fair. Among them were Todd M Clausen, market pig and swine show- manship. Peter Duncomb. Holstein. Rachel Hinman. market pigs. Lori Pitzen. Holstein and sheep. Mike Heimer. lamb, Chris Rockafellow, woodworking. Deanna Rustad. poster, Michele Schmidt, clothing selection. Tracy Dohler. poster, child devel- opment. communications Heather Hansen attracted a lot of attention with her winning carousel horse and Lori Gerdts was named Miss Congeniality in the Queen competition as well as winning awards in visual arts and bread-making. Jenny Thur- nau got an award for baking fortune cookies and Laura Vervaecke and Rachel Hinman won in photography. Paul Heimer was chosen for 4-H County Council August 1 brought top football players from all over the state together in the Annual Shrine Bowl in the UNI Dome at Cedar Falls. St. Ansgar was well-represented on the North squad by player Jim Hen- drickson and Coach Rich Sherman Later in August, several STAers (Travis Fell. Mr Duncomb. and the four “hussies'' pic- tured) took part in the summer stock production of Little Orphan Angela,'' directed by Mr Timothy Peter. And we can't forget our athletes - Jennifer Brower garnered honors for distance running. Jeremy Ask for free-style wrestling, and Mr and Mrs Tyler continued their winning ways in area hus- band-wife golf tournaments. Also 19 students attended All- State vocal music camp in Waverly Is it possible that life actually slowed down for some of these people when school started September 1?
