Homecoming week started off in the usual fashion with the Student Council planning the annual float and panel competition. The theme for this year was soda pop. The defending senior class came from a slow start, but managed to capture its third first- place title with ”C-C-Catch the Wave. Second place was given to the juniors for Dew It To 'Em, while the sophomores snared third with Jolt 'Em. Fourth place was given to the freshmen for Crush 'Em . The traditional spirit week was also in effect with dress up days this year including: Come As You Are (Pajama Day), Opposite Sex Day, Toga Day, Teacher Look-alike Day, and Red-and-White Day. Well, 'twas the night before Homecoming and all the toilet paper fairies were out and about. St. Ansgar's main street was strewn with roll after roll of bathroom tissue, as were many homes around town. It was rumored that one red brick house in particular got more than its fair share of the white stuff. 1 Collette Simon and Noel Collier, alias two familiar teachers, pose for a snap-shot on Teacher Look-alike Day. 2. The icy wind whipped at the skirts of the eight 1987 Home- coming queen candidates who were walking across the hard, frozen football field on the arms of their fathers. The crowd waited to hear who would become queen. On the loud- speaker came the answer, .. and the 1987 Homecoming queen is — Nancy Weber! The tears and emotions over- flowed as the seven girls ran to congratulate the new queen. Earlier that day, the king, Tim Klapperich, was crowned in front of the student body at the Homecoming pep rally in the gym. All of this excitement started in the homerooms of the senior class. Eight king and eight queen candidates were chosen by the senior class, two of which would become the the royal couple. The final ballot was drawn up and distributed to the whole student body to vote upon; hence, the 1987 King and Queen. The actual Homecoming football game was against the Nora Springs Eagles. The Saints blew the Eagles completely out of the air, as they ended the game with the score, 76 to 0, which is a school record for the most points scored in one game. One of the highlights of the evening was when a large gust of wind blew a kick-off astray, out-of-bounds, and straight into the waiting arms of Coach Sherman. 1. The 1987 Homecoming Royalty.
