St. Ansgar High School students had a great opportunity to broaden their horizons this past year by hosting two foreign exchange students. Christel Wolf, who turned seventeen on Thanksgiving Day this past November, comes from Gottingen in West Germany. It is a city of about 130,000 near the East German border. Her parents, Erhard and Inge Wolf, have no other children, so Christel had to adjust to living with siblings when she moved in with the Ken Theobald family of Stacyville. Lynn Theobald was Christel's German host sister for a month during Lynn's year-long stay as a YFU exchange student in West Germany and then Lynn's family offered to act as a host for Christel. The Saints Volleyball and Basketball teams benefited by Christel's stay here. She was a starter on the varsity volleyball team and at the end of the season made 2nd team All- Conference. Christel's other hobbies include reading, writing, and making new friends. Christel commented that she really liked school here. 24

Foreign Exchange Students Eduardo Lazo, 18, from Monterrey, Mexico, also had some adjustments to make in his move to rural Iowa. His hometown in Mexico has a population of about three million and he came from a family of his parents. Hector and Bertha, four brothers, and one sister, to a family of three sisters, at the Burton Scripture residence on an acreage south of St. Ansgar. During his stay he helped out at his guest family's business, the St. Ansgar Locker, and said he liked the work. Eduardo's other activities here include drawing and listening to music. He especially likes to draw houses and buildings. As for school, Eduardo commented that he liked sports and other activities being included in the school because it isn't that way in Mexico. His only dislike was the way Americans think of Mexico as ''one big ranch down south. Our congratulations to both of you, Christel and Eduardo, for surviving the tough Iowa winter and the teasing of your classmates and also our thanks to you for all you helped us learn. 25
