VOCATIONAL DEPARTMENT The social studies department is alive and thriving as any weary freshmen or junior could tell you. The masterminds are Mr. Thrond. Mr. Luense, Mr. Shaw, and Mr. Hogan. Mr. Luense carries a full schedule with American History, Economic Geogra- phy, Eastern Civilization, and coaching. We all know that he manages to keep his classes on their toes with assignment sheets and various other busy work. Mr. Hogan, the famous psychologist quoted in MAN. THE MANIPULATOR, and historian, “to a degree, has now survived two years at STA. He teaches American History, psychology, social studies, coaches basketball, and “so forth, on down the line’’. We hope the sinkers, led by Coach Dick, go to state next year. Mr. Shaw, along with math, geometry, and U. S. History, claims the title and responsibilities of athletic director. It was doubt ful that Mr. Thrond could find his way to the steering wheel through the mounds of “Newsweeks” stacked in his car, but he did it. He also managed to survive his fourth year at STA- another year of government and a fantastic semester of sociology with the class of ’70-a good experience for all. To round out the year, he also teaches world history and takes field trips to mysterious places. The class of ’70 breathed a sigh of relief and proudly placed their names on the chairs of the lecture room on the last day of school. Richard Hogan James Luense The Home Economics Department added many new one semester classes this year-coed, infact so that for the first time, boys were seen coming from that area. The new classes are child development, family living, housing and interiors, clothing, and foods. Highlights of the year were the merged family living psychology field trip to Faribault to visit the school for the deaf and the state mental institution. Dave had another very successful year with his FFA boys and their accomplishments. It was a little hard to see who was to get what honor at the end of the year, though, because he wrote on the awards himself and no one could read his writing! Maybe the next FFA project should be a typewriter. SOCIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT II Dale Thrond Mrs. Mary Fisk Dave Hinman Kermit Shaw
