NEW ADMINISTRATION UNDERWAY James L. Mitchell Keeping a large school district, both in population and area, functioning is a complex and challenging business. Along with our school board in planning the direction of our district, are the talents of three men, all experiencing their first year at St. Ansgar: Mr. Mitchell, superintendent; Mr. Wemette, high school principal; and Mr. Pyburn, junior high principal. These men must all work together to meet the needs of the students by giving each one a useful and constructive education—one that is applicable in our changing, progressive society. Thomas G. Wemette Roger Pyburn SCHOOL BOARD Harley Walk, Darrold Bless, Millard McNutt, Lynn Gordon, Ronald Priem, Secretary; Newlin Jensen, President; Daryl Mc- Cready, Gene Wagner, James Mitchell.

LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT Mr. Green entertained his world lit, and advanced comp, classes with scads of movies, records, and filmstrips this year. When lie’s not walking the halls in a daze, you might find him standing outside enjoying the spring weather or running errands for the annual staff in his black Bug. Mr. Green’s warm smile and the friendly atmosphere of his room are a welcome lift to all students, especially the de- pressed seniors last quarter. Mrs. Hendrickson manages to keep herself busy with her American Lit. and Novels classes. We all know how the Sophomores love those filmstrips and records, and the ju- niors and novels students love reading those paperbacks on the night before the papers are due. If there are wierd sounds coming from the northeast corner of the building and they aren’t beeps and buzzes from the radio shack, they’re probably coming from the German room where Miss Sacks tries to make bilinguals out of her students. The second-year class gets to go to the Amana Colonies in the spring. Lucky second year class! and Lucky Miss Sacks! Mr. Betts’ first year at STA was kept jam-packed with his drama and speech classes, the two plays, “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” and “My Fair Lady,” and playing basketball and handball in the gym in his spare time. Mr. Betts used a new method to get the cast to mem- orize lines—fines for all missed lines were deposited in Piggeth”, a plastic bank, and the funds were used for a cast party after the plays. The fuzzy-lipped, smiling, English teacher has a new room this year. He’s moved his freshman English small groups and his creative writing class out to the trailer, located back of the school. As for the moustache, I guess no one has any real objections at least at last count it was still there. 9
