FOREWORD c uWe; H)e Annua Staff, present this 1967 Highlights to you, the student body and faculty of St. Ansgar Senior High School . We present this book with its theme of Newness, a term which applies to every facet of this 1967-1968 school year During this academic year, an addition which almost doubled the size of the Senior High School Building was com- pleted. This addition gave us ten much needed classrooms, a band room including five practice rooms and a library, a cafe- teria and study center, a combination industrial arts and vocational arts center, and a large wrestling room Senior high students were undoubtably more conscious of this Newness due to the presence of construction men. electricians, and other workmen running to and from classrooms along with the regular traffic. A new method of scheduling was introduced at St. Ansgar this year, that of modular scheduling or twenty-minute periods. Students were allowed greater freedom and more opportunities to study the subjects of their own choice either individually or collectively. A total of seven new courses were introduced this year. They included Eastern civilization, economic geography draft- ing. woodworking general metals, general electricity and art. These courses offered an opportunity for a more wide and varied field of study. Certainly people brought newness to St. Ansgar Senior High. The year started with seven new instructors who helped l? f]?,6 1ew subJects- new ldeas. new methods to our school and its academic program. The school enrollment in- cluded 74 freshmen who added many more additional new ideas. Two transfer students were enrolled at St Ansgar who brought ideas from school systems other than our own. And certainly all of us who returned to STA this fall, faculty and students, could not help but feel a sense of newness when surrounded by the many changes which had taken place. We felt the opportunity to learn and grow which was re- newed with the beginning of this academic year. We felt not only a newness of surroundings but a newness of self. The green of our Highlights cover is a symbol of our ability to grow and change, bringing newness to our lives and always im- proving through this growth. And so, we present this book to you. We hope that our efforts have provided for your memories of a year which was a kaleidescopeot brilliant and shiny colors . . . those of our school days, a kaleidescope whose patterns are always changing becoming more wonderful and beautiful with each change. 5 '' 7
