Many of us do not realize the time and effort that goes into the making of such a publication. Let us then, here, view the procedure which re- sults in the composition of a typi- cal Stanner. 60 . The job of covering the various school activities now is given to the reporters. At the same time john Babuscio, in the center, be- gins the art work on the coming issue of the Stanner. In the upper left, Donald Howard collects the articles from the news staff which con- sists of Charles McDermott, john Gargiulo, Ronald Bernabo, Patrick Valenti, and Eugene O'Reilly. Howard then undertakes the task of revision and correction. In the upper right hand corner the sports staff of john Coulter, Raymond Cech, Pierre Rethore, and Arthur Eisenhuth submits its work to Robert Fenske who then commences to write his Sport Views. Finally, the material is given to Brother Paul Michael by the editors who seeks to coordinate it with the format. Brother now sends the issue oh' to the printer, Hermes being replticed by Ed. Swihurs, and in two weeks the hnished product is distributed. 61 ws-.1 What 15 xt' Brother C,,I 1.,, t N-. -4 K .X I ,cg Env .xg-'U , -45.1 ,toy N 1 QSC- C , 5,5 X U1 if 1522- N N 1. if 3- 3 'S X WS,-1 Q 'W N J a SQA.. v ,- Cx A f. SENIOR FORENSIC This year's major conquest in the forensic field has been meeting the continual round of activities most favorably. The all-city competition, sponsored by the Catholic Forensic League, has witnessed senior representatives such as Fred Schiro, Bill Beatty, and Gene O'Reilly as well as able underclassman particularly Patrick Valenti, Raymond Reavely, john O'Connor and Michael Boyle, participated in many of the leagues activities. In preliminary rounds concerning contests in original oratory, oratorical interpretation, extempore speaking, and dramatic interpretation, St. Ann's teams have managed to secure several first places, although the entire total of places were not sufficient to enter them as finalists in the climaxing round. In the all-city debate tournament held at Brooklyn Prep, the St. Ann's teams held on to their position in the elimination contest until the last 10 teams QSI. Ann's among themj entered the semi-finals. At the conclusion of the semi-finals seven teams were eliminated leaving the remaining three to claim top honors. In dual meets in inter-school debating, the seniors have been on the short end of close decision debates. Noted teams that they have met were Mount St. Michael, St. John's Prep, Xavier, and Brooklyn Prep. The sophomores, having split with St. johrfs Prep, and La Salle in the early part of the season, went through the remainer of the schedule topping Regis to begin a series of straight wins. The Sophomore debating team. 66 O'Connor makes like Cicero. FRESHMAN SPEECH CL B The newly formed Freshman Speech Club has promising orators who have participated in the C.F.E. sponsored Student's Congress, and also the freshmen oratorical interpretation contest. Will Beatty participated in a group of four as the St. Ann's student rep- resentative on station WATV's television program junior Town Meeting discussing the question, Is European Disunity Growing? Over WABD's television station featuring the New York Times Forum, St. Ann's was rep- resented by Fred Schiro who participated in the panel discussion of the Taft-Hartley Law-Bane or Boon? to further forensic activity. St. Ann's proudly congratulates its forensic members for their many hours of sacrifice in preparation for these contests and for their earnest efforts This one look good Tow Row W Jaenike R Gillanders, D Kelleher, J Turner, R Ballermo Bottom Row J McGovern, W Henry, J Pollomo, D Paterson ' , uf, . Greene, went through their fifth year of choral work in splendid fashion. Because of the nature of this past year's work, the achievements of our young choristers have be- come more widely known and appreciated. Once again this year they were on a coast to coast tele- cast of the Christmas Midnight Mass from St. Patrick's Cathedral as a climax to their other television appearances. This enabled video audiences all over the nation to see and hear some of their best performances. We hope that they will continue in future years to bring pleasure and joy into the homes of millions of Americans. Are we really at the end of our gram- mar school days? I-low quickly those eight years have passed, years replete with spiritual formation, character training and Christian education. lt was during these years that we prepared to re- ceive Our Lord for the first time, were filled with the Holy Ghost, taught by example to communicate on the first Fridays, and to curb our temper, and to practice generosity. Our line teachers, the Brothers, have patiently worked to teach us the rudiments and tine points of reading, writing and arithmetic. Opportunities to strengthen and develope our body, as well as our soul and mind, have not been neglected. Gym classes and participation in intramural games helped to fill this gap. ln the latter, we acquitted ourselves very well. XY'ith this well-rounded training as a background we step into high school with confidence in our- selves and a deep feeling of gratitude to the Marist Brothers. X5Ue will ever be grateful for the sacrifices of our parents and our teachers which have made this edu- cation possible.
