655 QJVOIDIZECQ June 7, 1954. My Dear Molly : You really missed something by not coming to our tenth reunion which was one for the books. Of course, an equestrian mishap is to be expected from time to time, but honestly, when you break your back, it's just too much. But I must get to the point. Vlfhat I want to tell you about is that meeting. My dear, you know perfectly well that l have never gossiped, but some of this is simply too good to keep. Since l realized that you'd be interested, l jotted down a few notes. The meeting was called to order by our old president, -lerry Anne Keane, who breezed in from New York where she runs tand very efficientlyj a domestic em- ployee service of some sort. Really quite an amazing occupation, The minutes were read by Mrs. Cleanercloes, the fo1'mer Nancy Didlake. The treasurer's report, which was financial chaos, was read by Martha Gleason, recently retired from the VVaves with the rank of Apprentice Seaman. She now heads all charitable organizations in Albemarle County. Wliilc- we were all chatting quietly over our tea, Cecily Baker burst in, still clad in her silk tights which she uses constantly in her latest ballet success, ,lilephantine Gambol. Marjorie Smithy told us of Marilyn l.eander's connection with Frank Sinatra's orchestra, lfmily Kidder turned up at last, distributing her latest gastronomical success, the new cereal, Kidder's Korn Flakes, Right in the midst of it all, poor Virginia Anne X1Vood, who had just come from a dance marathon, had to be given first aid by the eminent physician, Dr. Lydia Henderson, who specializes in heart diseases. The former Pat Funsten came in, followed by a train of children. l under- stand she literally supports Saint Anne's now. She spent a great deal of time dis- cussing college requirements with President Cocke of Hollins. lt was not until the middle of the afternoon that I recognized Sydney Elliott, who has made millions with her factory which puts out noise makers for New Year's Eve parties. lneidentally, Sydney still plays a championship game of tennis. And now my dear, let me tell you about Stuart Etheridge. She ran Best and Company out of business, and has retired from the buying profession to marry one of the more famous of her many men. Well, there's nothing more to say. As you know, l'm still living in a garret, and subsisting on carrots and gossip. My work on the comic strip, Flit-gun Mama, is not too successful. Love, BARBARA. l27l
