My Dear Molly : You really missed something by not coming to our tenth reunion which was one for the books. Of course, an equestrian mishap is to be expected from time to time, but honestly, when you break your back, it's just too much. But I must get to the point. Vlfhat I want to tell you about is that meeting. My dear, you know perfectly well that l have never gossiped, but some of this is simply too good to keep. Since l realized that you'd be interested, l jotted down a few notes. The meeting was called to order by our old president, -lerry Anne Keane, who breezed in from New York where she runs tand very efficientlyj a domestic em- ployee service of some sort. Really quite an amazing occupation, The minutes were read by Mrs. Cleanercloes, the fo1'mer Nancy Didlake. The treasurer's report, which was financial chaos, was read by Martha Gleason, recently retired from the VVaves with the rank of Apprentice Seaman. She now heads all charitable organizations in Albemarle County. Wliilc- we were all chatting quietly over our tea, Cecily Baker burst in, still clad in her silk tights which she uses constantly in her latest ballet success, ,lilephantine Gambol. Marjorie Smithy told us of Marilyn l.eander's connection with Frank Sinatra's orchestra, lfmily Kidder turned up at last, distributing her latest gastronomical success, the new cereal, Kidder's Korn Flakes, Right in the midst of it all, poor Virginia Anne X1Vood, who had just come from a dance marathon, had to be given first aid by the eminent physician, Dr. Lydia Henderson, who specializes in heart diseases. The former Pat Funsten came in, followed by a train of children. l under- stand she literally supports Saint Anne's now. She spent a great deal of time dis- cussing college requirements with President Cocke of Hollins. lt was not until the middle of the afternoon that I recognized Sydney Elliott, who has made millions with her factory which puts out noise makers for New Year's Eve parties. lneidentally, Sydney still plays a championship game of tennis. And now my dear, let me tell you about Stuart Etheridge. She ran Best and Company out of business, and has retired from the buying profession to marry one of the more famous of her many men. Well, there's nothing more to say. As you know, l'm still living in a garret, and subsisting on carrots and gossip. My work on the comic strip, Flit-gun Mama, is not too successful. '- !95i L fig ' JIM? JA Our Sports year Saint Anne's opened its Fall Term with all of the old favor- ites-tennis, hockey, and modern dancing, plus two new sports- archery and soccer, both of which were very popular. During the summer, four new regulation ten11is cou1'ts had been built, making it possible for Saint Annes to have several classes in tennis ranging from lleginners' to Advanced. The hockey season was very successful. Saint Anne's played a first team game and a second team game with Fairfax Hall at Fairfax, and botl1 teams came home triumphant. The next outside game was played with Fairfax Hall at Saint Anne's. The hrst team defeated the Fairfax team by six points, but the second team, after a hard-fought game, lost to the Fairfax second team by two points. ln between these two eventful games, several Gold a11d Wliite team games were played with the usual enthusiastic Gold Zlllfl White spec- tators shouting and yelling for their respective teams. Saint Anne's successful hockey season has been attributed to three leading factors: the vast new hockey fieldg the careful guidzmce and excellent instruction given by Miss Constance Applebee, the founder of hockey in America, who spent three long afternoons coaching the teams, and the excellent coaching of Miss Gaines, the athletic director. There was, as usual, riding, which took place several afternoons each week. The VVinter Term opened with basketball, volleyball, modern dancing, social dancing, and tumbling. All of these classes were very well liked, and some were so much in demand that two classes had to be forn1ed. There were two tumbling, social danc- ing, and volleyball classes. The basketball classes were divided into Beginners, lntermediate, Junior Varsity, and Varsity. First a11d second team games were played with Fairfax l-lall at Saint Anne's, and both games were won by the Saint Anne's teams l46l with high scoring. The Varsity team was defeated by the Sweet llriar Freshmen by seven points, after a spectacular contest. Return games were played with both Sweet Briar and Fairfax llall. lloth teams played very well throughout the whole season, and generally speaking, they were quite successful. Again, the teams' success was attributed to the superb coaching of Miss Gaines. lluring the Wiiitei' Term, there were also two tourna- ments that were quite popular. These were the badminton and ping-pong tournaments. All of the Golds played Golds and the Vtfhites played XNhites. The winners of the respective teams re- ceived several points towards a letter. Later they played each other and the winner received a few additional points plus the distinction of being the Saint Anne's lladminton and Ping-Pong Champion respectively. As usual, everyone heralded the Spring Term with joy, first because it was the last lap of the school year, and secondly be- cause it gave them a chance to get into the open, and not feel confined to the building. ln this last term, Saint Anne's offered tennis, softball, soccer, archery, and modern dancing. All of these sports had excellent attendance, and as they Caine to a close, so did another year of exciting and arousing sports come to a glorious end. l47I unify jaskefbaff Reading Left To Right Frou!
