We won't bother telling you how much work that went into putting these pages together to become what is now, a yearbook. We'd much rather sit back and watch your faces as you take a short trip back through this year. It has been fun putting pictures and words together but not only that, but bringing everyone together and we hope that you will enjoy it! ' Z Barbra White Sura Long Editor Photography Editor Naomi Grossman Advisor Vickie Taylor Marie O'Con.uor Literary Editor 48 Business Editor EWSPAPER STAFF FIRST ROW ON FLOOR, Darlene Mennelle, Debbie Furey, Io I-Iennig. SECOND ROW, Cheryl Doucette, Heidi Ricker, Valerie Williams, Nora Bernazzani, Mary Luby, Kanella Lambros, Nancy Tyler. The newspaper Staff changes from block to block but the contents of the paper is always good. It includes things like original poems and stories, cmrent events, articles on school policies and comics. It's very interesting to the whole school and is put together very well. The girls who work on the paper deserve thanks from everyone for it is their time and effort which is the school newspaper. Along with the girls there is a faculty advisor who guides each girl. It's not only something fun to do but a learning experience too. 49 STUDENT COUNCIL James Heaney, advisor, Denise Monteiro, President, Debbie Brimmer, Treasurer. Elizabeth Kershaw, advisor. Dan- lene Mennelle, Secretary. Sugie Emmett, Vice President. FIRST ROW SEATED. Jim Heaney, Neecie Monteiro, Debbie Brimmer, Elizabeth Kershaw, Darlene Mennelle, Vickie Taylor, Sugie Emmett. SECOND ROW: Nora Bernazzani, Diane Williams, Doris Rhoden, Denise Edwards, Joani Crimmins. 50 x Our Student Council consists of two representatives from each class, the president of the class and one elected representative. There are four officers and two faculty advisors. The Council deals with matters of concern to the whole student body like the dining room and study hall. They have done a great deal to help the student body fully understand the curriculum change. They also worked on many school projects like Oktoberfest fwhich was canceled until November and called Novemberfest. J, the Father Daughter Dinner Dance and ski weekends. Student Council is here to represent the students and to make sure they are heard. The officers put a great amount of effort into the difficult task it is to speak for many people. The representatives also work hard to make sure the different view points are heard. The advisors work together with the council to help limit the demands to a point where the demands become positive and workable. As one student said, Student Council is like a microphone, the students speak through the microphone and we help them to be heard louder and clearer. Student Council is the voice of the quiet, the volume for the straight forward and the spark for the passive. 51 PRESIDE T'S COUNCIL ef SFATED, Doris Rhoden, President of the Junior class. Vickie Taylor, President of the Senior class. STANDING, Denise Edwards, President of the Sophomore class, Denise Monteiro, President of Student Council. The President's Council met every other Wednesday to discuss class matters. We did this so that there would be better communication between classes as far as fund raising and responsibilities went. Each class officer would try to help the other one if there was some misunderstanding about her role. Neecie and Vickie spent a week at a leadership conference the summer before school started so they had a lot to share with the other girls. Their experiences of being a class officer before was also shared. But each girl ran her clas meetings to the best of her ability. Each did a fine job. Sheila Berfield, President of the Junior High grades. Absent. 52 MEETINGS MEETINGS MEETINGS!! 53 DRAMA CLUB This year The Drama Club headed by James Heaney gave an excellent production of Be a Little Cockoo . Through the years Sura has shown consideration for others, kind- . ness, understanding and unselfishness which are some F' of the characteristics of our May Queen. She is a . friendly person who is open to new ideas and people. . , The position of May Queen is quite an honor since .c both the students, faculty and Sisters vote for this girl, which means she must have an outstanding per- L sonality. The ceremony is held in May and is the ,J . celebration of The Feast of Our Lady. It is a special 5, . day for everyone. The Queen is crowned and processes p ,L to the garden with her court to see the May Pole Dance ,i .- and greet her guests. 3' . I W' ig : We are very happy for Sura and feel she deserves the . . REPRESENTATIVE STUDENT VICKIE TAYLOR At St. Anne 's it is traditional to elect a Representative Student. The students elect a fellow student whom they feel is loyal, responsible, has leadership qualities, is dependable and is concerned about the school and is willing to give of herself. This year these qualities were acknowledged in Vickie, who has been at St. Anne 's for six years. She was elected Senior Class President by her fellow Seniors and has accepted the numerous responsibilities. She 's done her job well. Not only was she Senior Class President, but she also had the job of Literary Editor of the yearbook. She was Student Council Treasurer in her junior year and is still a member. She also helped start the Afro-American Society S. A. S. of which she was President for two years. Manager of the basketball team was also one of her com- mitments. During the summer before her Senior year Vickie spent a week at the N. A. S. C. leadership conference where she attended semi- nars on leadership. She came back with an idea to start a President 's Council which she is chairman. Vickie has done a fine job and because of her many activities she was elected to be a member of The Society of Outstanding American High School Students. 79 CHRISTMAS TIME The night before we all left to go home there was a big supper in the dining room, where Santa made his an- nual visit. Cookies and punch! ! ! Christmas is a festive occasion everywhere including St. Anne's This year we had a tableau in the chapel where students reenacted the nativity scene. The angels were beautiful.
