4-A-H W-I-T-Y fwf'ffff M Captains ready P H A nod from each side of the court, then the shrill hxss p Lp blast of the referee's whistle ofhcially opened the 1941-42 basketball season on December 4. Always a popular tlifal ,IffZ,Tff2.:f' sport at Saint Angela, basketball proved to be the major activity of the year with the varsity practicing in every spare moment and the student body thronging the home games. In the picture above you can see that even window space was at a premium during games and from the excited expression on the face of Cornelia Wear you can guess the tension as the score see-sawed between Saint Angela and the visiting team. Urged on by the cries, St. Angela, roll the score up and Teaml Team! Team! the Varsity showed splendid spirit. Though they might have destroyed the morale of the team, three straight defeats put fire into the girls. The tide turned at the Alumnae game when Saint Angela won by one point made during the last thirty seconds of play. ii iiiuii

-where hooks mirror the thoughts of the ages ET us introduce to you the Library Committee. That's Lorraine Lian, busy at the desk. Barbara Travenot is scudiously checking the magazine list. The young lady putting away books is Dorothy Moran, and the one fixing cards in the cata- logue is .Peggy Moran Qno relationj. Elaine de Coste is pounding away at the typewriter. Besides their regular duties of checking books in and out, these girls assist Sister, che life and love of our library, in taking inventoryg in keeping the magazine rack neat and up to date, in filing cards, putting the books tidily back on the shelves, and making out an overdue notice or library account slip. On Tuesday and Wednesday at the fourth period, Peggy and Elaine change from youthful librarians to stern QU proctors of a freshman study. At last tbey're on the other side-of the desk! With a record of six Wins and five ' ',. ,1,' ,,,, V . iteygvefcbl ,trsy f defeats at the end of the season, the Varsity of 1941-42 l,,r f,-f f will long be remembered for its fine spirit and the ability to come from behind and Win. But basketball was not over. The Varsity gave Way to the intramural games with each 'fyy class vying for the cham- pionship of the school. T he climax to the rivalry Came when the 41295, Cham pions of the upper floor, met the 1B's who had eliminat ed all contenders. So fast and furious a game had n ever been seen in the Hall. lt culminated with the triumph of the 1B's over the unbelieving Seniors. The score Was 11-10. For the first time in history the Freshmen had gained the intramural , Hag l t.t GRACE DE STEFANO.
