Through the Looking Glass HE mirror stood before me, tall and majestic, from floor to distant ceiling. As the sun streamed through the spacious bay windows, touching the glass, its reflecting rays lit up the whole room. Slowly, I drew nearer. The whole room stretched before me. I could see the door through which I had come, the piano, the radio, the couch, the lamps. It was like stepping into the same room again. Is it any wonder I began to dream a little? I seemed to look back at my life. Inci- dents, important and insignificant, began to reproduce themselves in the mirror of memory. Everything was behind meg nothing ahead. How many times had I looked into this mirror? I could see myself standing here in a white dress, holding the small white prayerbook of my First Holy Communion. I could see myself standing there admiring the Swish of my pink graduation gown, my first long dress. How thrilled I was at the idea of growing up! Again, as a happy freshman, I stood there gazing at my reflection in my new Saint Angela Hall uniform. My first formal-wihat an event that was! . . . When her mother tends her before the laughing mirror, Tying up her laces, looping up her hair . George Meredith caught the spirit of that night, that hap bustle. Nearly everything important in my life could be seen through this mirror. And when I die, then all the deeds of my life will be reflected back on me. Today, I pray that my reflection will be as bright, and as glowing in the eyes of God, as the illuminating rays that spread across the rooms, when the sun from the bay-windows glistened on the mirror.
