Institutions f L' mwtfl lfyweand practices seldom remain so for very long. f74f'l4 5 0'J3 fgtwtjagf Evidence of this transition can be found in the fggnw! renewal of the Catholic Church today. As the Lcfz, fag? Church is in a state of change so also are her seminaries. Last year marked the inauguration of a new system, the 4-4-4 program. This year in V 7 we at Saint Andrew's have become aware of a f,f5,wwLQ31a2f marked change in the campus atmosphere, not only in structural format but also in the spirit O ' of each one of us. Through these changes we 4 JG! are more vividly aware that the Lord is coming. ACTI ITIE Peter Bur surer Student Activities Council The Student Activities Council is the agency at St. Andrew's that harmonizes its numerous and diverse extra-curricular functions. Each homeroom and club is officially represented in SAC, but the format of the meetings this year has evolved into a more personal arrangement that encourages every student to participate. Al- though the Council's primary purpose is to coordinate activities, it accomplishes far more than this. SAC can boast sponsorship of the Friday night movies and the overwhelmingly successful Gaudeamus and Mardi Gras. To enumerate SAC's achievements would be close to impossible, for most are now imbedded deep in the structure of school life. 48 ke, President, Gerard Callan, Secretary, Richard Llgino. Mission Society Bishop Fulton J. Sheen once said: The missionary is never tired when he has someone to serve. The comfortable are tired at the thought of serving another. With thoughts such as this in mind true mission spirit is instilled in every student through the efforts of the Mission Society. As in past years money for mission en- deavors has been raised by selling sportswear and Christmas cards. Additional money was raised-this year from the profits of a candy machine, recently installed. The annual spring Mission day rounded out a successful year by allowing the students to enjoy a day of fun and games while at the same timeiproviding the 'mis- sions with much needed assistance. 50 Bob Buckert, chairman of the Mission Sportswear Sales, displays some of the merchandise. Latin Exhibit Each year the Latin club and the Latin stu- dents of the Seminary sponsor a Latin exhibit and contest. The students design and con- struct models and replicas depicting many as- pects of Roman life. A new feature this year was a double contest: one a translation of ex- cerpts of Patrick Henry's speech to the Vir- ginia Convention in l775 and the other a taped essay on the proposition C. Julius Caesar was the Noblest Roman of Them All John Yockel constructs the rostrum Matt Temple and Carl Santangelo arrange their model for display. Jon Spacher and Dan Murphy stand behind their exhibit, which illustrates the tech- niques used by Romans in laying siege to a town. Fr. Kenny, moderator of the exhibit, strikes a dis- tinctively Roman pose. Bob Riley plays the part of a Roman soldier. Steve Mayer, Matt Kawiak, Carl Santangelo, and Dick Kasper help put together the chariot. 87 Mission Day Mission Day, celebrated early in May, is the high point of the year for the Mission Society. The profits from this undertaking fare sent to various alumni and friends in the mission fields. The day began with a talk by a missionary priest, who discussed some of the aspects of his work. Af- ter this the booths were opened to the students until late in the after- noon. An auction followed the races and raffles. The day ended with a movie in the evening. Three physically fit fcoughlj harriers at the starting line of the Mission races Father Halloran is thinking about his paper route which must get done no matter what to- morrow brings. The crowd gazes in awe at the brand new invention. talk- ing silent movies. Four smart seminarians are dying to eat. Menu: Hots, pop, and Ja' Hrzant S.A.C. Movies As always, the projector got fouled up somehow. Experienced mechanics prepared the film for showing. A raffle drawing took place after the movie. 255 . 1--- 1 24t M25 .- liilg f Slit 3.
