JUNIOR AND INTRAMURAL SPORTS THIS year, The second oT iTs exisTence, The J. V. l:ooTball Team was coached by Mr. HuTTon and Mr. Pell. Even Though The squad was large, iT was diTTiculT To geT a Team up, because none oT The boys had ever played TogeTher beTore. The Team Tinally evolved played a murderous schedule againsT Teams ThaT usually ouTweighed Them, and consider- ing The qualiTy oT Their opposiTion, did remarkably well. The one evenly maTched game They played, They won. ln The beginning oT The year The J. V.'s were capTained by Ben HousTong buT as he proved himselT so valuable, he was promoTed To The VarsiTy. Ted BurTon was Then made capTain and Chuck Turner, quarTerback. The Junior FooTball Team, quarTerbacked by Tom Gooden, Tied iTs TirsT game, beaT Tower Hill I2-O, and was beaTen by Tome. As in The pasT The Team was coached by lvlr. Cameron and Mr. Holder. Due To lvlr. Sherwoods absence during The TirsT parT oT The winTer Term, lvlr. Schoonover and Mr. Schmolze Took charge oT squash and evolved a ladder To help pick Tive Teams laTer in The season. The capTains chosen were AusTin, PierponT, BrighT, Pilling, and VVhiTaker3 and since PierpoinT was sick during The laTTer parT oT The schedule, HousTon, an invalid during The TirsT parT, Took over his Team. When The maTches were over iT was Tound ThaT AusTin's Team had won, Pilling's and BrighT's were Tied Tor second, and WhiTaker's and PierpoinT's broughT up The rear. The I938 iunior baseball Team, coached by lvlr. Schoonover, was The besT in The school's hisTory. A reliable piTching sTaTT oT BuTler and Voorhees, a snappy inTield, and a glue-Tingered ouTTield wiTh T. Canby, The paTriarch oT S. A. S. baseball, as mainsTay, accounTed Tor a brillianT season wiTh a score oT ll won and 2 losT. Henry lvlcCorkle was The slugger and goT The Junior Baseball baTTing prize. The '39 Junior BaskeTball Team shows promise oT developing inTo The besT VarsiTy BaskeTball Team The school has ever had. ln spiTe oT Their Tough schedule, They won 2 ouT OT 6 games, and puT up a good Tighr Tor The oTher Tour. The Team was coached by Mr. Tonks. On April 23, I938, The S.A.S. second varsiTy Tour beaT Penn CharTer, and The iunior Tour beaT Germanlrown Academy on NoxenTown Pond.
