Presbs termn Junior College HISTORY OF P. J. C. INTRODUCTION ECAUSE of the struggles of the Board of Trustees and Faculty, our school has lived and Hourished through ten years of work. Though the depression has been a great hold-back, and the financial end was in dire need of re- plenishing, our beloved Alma Mater has sent many stu' dents to higher schools of learningq and with the splendid enrollment expected for next year, we are certain that time will bring forth a bigger and better school for those boys who feel the need of a junior College. HISTORY On September 28, 1927, the Trustees of the Elsie High School presented an overture to the Presbytery of Fayetteville, asking for authority to set in motion an effort to establish a junior College in connection with that in- stitution. Subsequent events indicate that this was but the crystallization of a general feeling that there was a real need in this part of the Lord's vineyard for such an in- stitution. The Presbytery gave its hearty approval of the idea contained in the overture in the following resolution: That we recognize the need of a junior College ffor menj and recommend that such an institution be estab- lished as soon as possible. A committee of five was ap- pointed to investigate the whole question as to cost, loca- tion and the possibiltiy of securing the co-operation of other Presbyteries in the enterprise. A similar commit- tee was appointed by Mecklenburg Presbytery. These committees held a two-day joint conference studying the whole question and visiting the prospective locations for the proposed school. In their report they endorsed the plan to establish a junior College for men, recommended that an offer from the owners of the Caro- lina property at Maxton be accepted and the institution located there, and called for a joint meeting of their re- spective Presbyteries to hear and study the report.
