Mr Hester presented senior class president. Donald Brown and sec- retary, Marlene Seigmann with their class rings. They, in turn. presented rings to Lynda Morillo, treasurer of the senior class and Sammy Ellis, acting as vice-presv dent in the absence of Coleman Glaze, The girls received their rings while Marlene station. nearo ne was inreresteu in radio and invited him down to the station The next week. Randy was broadcasting alone with no experi- ence except what he had observed a short while one morning This is how Randy got his job as part-time radio announcer for WTMA. At this point he has been in radio about one month of ac- tual air time and already he has enough experiences to write a book. Randy tells us that there are so many things to go wrong at a radio station and he has had his share Uppermost in his mind is recent- ly when he left the mike on while ,answering the telephone and his conversation was broadcast Also .hearing the VVashington Farm Re- port come over the air after just announcing a sports program: playing the wrong commercial: 'spinning a 33 rpm record at 45 rpm, and having the tape break in the mirldle of the show all add to the merriment of his work. I A radio announcer's voice must reflect the mood of the program he is about to do and Randy finds it most difficult to be in a serious state of mind to announce a seri- ous program, Down at the radio station, Ran- com- ze-ring 1 .d en. Ufllef' rolina r two nore- at the University of North Caro- lina Randy also tells us that a radio announcer is dire:-tly responsible to his public and must be very careful of what he says There are many advantages of being in radio.
