Dear Graduates: As you leave St. Andrew's you carry with you many memories. The thoughts of your teachers, your classmates, your studies, and the many events, both religious and social will always be held sacred. Outstanding among your recollections will be the great Council which convened during your senior year. This spiritual conclave will be recalled, not merely as a singular event of the twentieth century, but also as something which placed you in an atmosphere of holy dedication as you faced the realities of a turbulent world. Pope john called this Council to show forth the hidden beauty of the Church and to revitalize the spirit of Christian living. He urged the faithful To open their hearts to the action of divine grace and to let the light of eternal truth shed its radiance over lives that are wholeheartedly and enthusiastically dedicated towards putting into effect the Commandments of jesus Christ. Your education in St. Andrew's was fashioned according to the same manner. As you depart from your Alma Mater under Mary's protection, endeavor to make manifest by your Christian living the inner strength which you possess. Journey to Rome His Eminence james Francis Cardinal Mclntyre and Bishop Timothy Manning, Auxiliary of Los Angeles, prepare for their trip to Rome to attend the Ecumenical Council. As our representatives, they will aid the Pope in his endeavors for renewal of the internal life of the Church and Christian unity. 9
