The 1959 Rocket takes its place in the long, honorable history of St. Alphonsus Rock High School. In years to come may it serve you as a treasury of memories that you will cherish as among the happiest of your life. The Rocket presents to the eye pictures of actors and scenes on the stage of life in school, but it does not, and cannot, portray the hidden, vital elements that make up the drama that is Rock. These elements lay special claim to your appreciation and love. Only you who experience it can sense the warm, friendly atmosphere that gives you a feeling of belonging, not to an impersonal institution, but to a family, in which authority and obedience blend into an easy, natural relationship. Even the ancient woodwork in the school building has a homey air about it. Silently but powerfully active in this familiar atmosphere are the highly trained competence of the Notre Dame Sisters and the lay teachers, their dedication, their unwearying labor to give you a neatly balanced liberal and practical education. Like all Catholic and many non-Catholic educators, they are motivated by the conviction that religious and spiritual values are vital to the world of learning. In accordance with this conviction they develop the spiritual side of your personality by daily instructions in Religion, by giving you the opportunity of attending Holy Mass and receiving Holy Communion on all class days, and by encour- aging greater holiness by means of various Confraternity activities. Finally, since a sound body is usually necessary for a sound mind, your school program duly emphasizes physical education and sports. As you read the pages of the Rocket be reminded of its inner meaning. Gratefully accept it and make the best of a golden opportunity. To the Graduates we say a fond farewell. Sincerely we pray our Lord and His gracious Mother to bless them with persevering loyalty to the high ideals planted in their souls by their Alma Mater. Joseph Fagen, C.SS.R.

'This was your year' at St. Alphonsus Rock High School with emphasis on 'joy in the student vocation.' The '59 ROCKET follows a seasonal theme. It was logical to place the freshman class in the fall section. Enrolling freshmen bring new blood to vitalize the classroom and the extra-curricular program. Perhaps the placement of the senior class in the winter division was somewhat arbitrary. Their activities were spread quite equally throughout the year, however, and it was felt that a record of the classes should be carried through all the seasons. The juniors are traditionally busy in the spring of the year with the prom, junior-senior luncheon, and the preparation for the crowning of the loveliest Mother, the loveliest month. The sophomores are in accord with the poet 'and what is so rare as a day in June?' Summer and school is out. But there are many who will nominate the sixth month as their favorite of the twelve. This is the beginning of a new season: this is the time of fulfillment. The yearbook staff is deeply grateful to Mr. Albert Bohm, General Manager of Rembrandt Studios, Inc., for the excellent seasonal pictures,
