At the age of twelve Aloysius came under the spiritual guidance of Saint Charles Borronieo and received First Holy Communion froin him. During his years as page to the son of Philip II in Spain he resolved to become a fesuit and after securing his fathers permission, renounced his noble heritage and presented himself to the head of the jesuit order, seeking admission and willing to give his life completely to God, Before the end of his novitiate he was on the start to a brilliant career for Christ and excelled in both Philosophy and Theology. From the very beginning, Aloysius kept his soul as pure as the whitest snow, remaining on his knees many hours before Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, and .spreading devotion to Our Blessed Lady. God wanted to show us that even the very young ian become saints. During the fourth year of the saints studies, a famine broke out in Italy and although Aloysius was in delicate health, he devoted himself to the care of the sielq and soon fell ill. Thus Christ took his soul to Heaven at an early age. Saint Aloysius was canonixed by Benedict XIII in 1726. 'The Church gave us the great advantage of pray' ing to this true model of Christian youth for envouragenient, both in our studies and in our attitude toward life. X Anlg if I il L- f f f s f Q? The whole student body participated with due enthusiasm on this memorable occasion. Right is always right, and wrong is always wrong, was the famous motto of the revered Father Connor, and the Academy supported it wholeheartedly. 1 Breakfast. Priest giving out Holy Com munion at the Communion FIRST FRIDAY CLUB On every First Friday of the month one can find the Academy girls kneeling in adoration at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the school auditorium With everybody in the school wearing the required blue uniform and hat, it is a truly impressive sight to behold. One of the priests from St. Peter's College comes every month in order to give Mass and Holy Communion to the girls at the Academy. A special committee is organized among the senior girls to help arrange the altar and flowers for First Friday Mass. Afterwards, breakfast is served in the school cafeteria for the student body. C.Y.A. Father J. Bernier of the Blessed Sacrament of St. jean Baptiste in New York, introduced the C.Y.A. into our school a few years ago. As members of the Catholic Youth Adoration Society we have a holy hour every month in St. Aloysius Church. No one can possibly estimate all the graces that have been given to us and our school through these monthly visits with Our Lord. At the recent C Y A Communion Breakfast at St. Paul the Apostle Church, n New York City we were represented by over a hundred girls. Our efforts were rewarded when we received a citation for outstanding workin the C.Y.A. 77 BASKETBALL TEAM First Row, left to right: M. A. Blanchet, Co-Captain and M. E. Eastman, Captain. The editor, Claire Banoky, with her assistant editor, Teresa Mastro, under the guidance of Sister Louise Catherine, the moderator, has done a commend' able job. During the year the staff, under their supervision, has succeeded in giving the students complete and interesting coverage of all the major activities and events which make up our school year. The Acadian's en' thusiastic and competent writers and reporters have contributed their time and talent to give this year's paper a personality all its own. But aside from all the tedious work involved, there was the light side of examining humorous pictures and laughing together over them. The hours seemed to slip away unheeded while the staff members carefully assembled the ALOGON, picture by picture, caption by caption. The planning of art work, write-ups and design added up to work and fun. C I I The Mother f Daughter Communion Nancy Breakfast was a great success, thanks to the L arlgjn, Mr . . . . S' J lm cooperation of all those who participated in O H L it. Father Robert Egan, from Boystown was the inspiring speaker. Working hand in hand with our faculty, the Mother's Auxiliary of the Academy, has proved itself to be beneficial both to its members and our school. The members who participate throughout the year receive spiritual as well as material satisfaction. Semifannual card parties and several fashion shows are given, but the highlight of their social activities is the Mother' Daughter Communion Breakfast, which as in the past was a great success this year. 87 arkm LIBRARY COVNCIL, Left to right: M. They have worked every afternoon in the lihrary arf ranging books, helping the girls who wished to find a book, and keeping the shelves well stocked. The highlight of the year was the Book Fair held in January. The officers Anita Moran, President: Ann Cauldren, Vice Presidentg Angela Campana, Secretary: and Katherine Burke, Treasurer, with their staff of thirty counselors, thus hrought to the Academy a chance to huy some worth- while books. During Catholic Press Mtunth, many hooks including Catholic hest sellers were displayed in the library. Among its other activities, the council devoted time in April to the staging of a radio skit in honor of the canonization of Mother Seton. 88 Left , che!! Mit 0 rlgfzg-.
